Afterparty like it’s 2009 this summer at PS1 MoMa WarmUp series

It’s that time of winter again, when we start looking towards the summer… though it still does feel a little far away. Not for PS1, who announced their winner for the 2009 Young Architects Program’s design for this summer’s courtyard installation. If you’re not familiar, PS1’s Summer WarmUp parties have been happening for over a decade, and these days are met with mixed perspectives, since it draws throngs of young people drinking, sometimes dancing around in costumes.

The [winning] project, titled “Afterparty,” is indeed hard to describe. There is its unusual mix of forms and materials: aluminum, thatching, concrete pools. In their official proposal, the architects say their design is meant to honor and reflect current economic realities. The materials are basic, including a lightweight aluminum frame comprising recyclable parts, with minimal assembly required. “Today, we find ourselves at the after-party, rethinking and resituating architecture,” they wrote.
WTB peoples are way more annoying and they’re there all spring and summer, while PS1 is just 1 day a week for like 8 weeks only.
Other businesses love both b/c of the foot traffic. LIC is like the place to be during the summer for people not in the Hamptons or Jersey Shore.
I bet your attitude would be different if you owned a business in the area. We should be encouraging anything which brings people into LIC to shop eat and and drink.
Its kind of funny that MOS was allowed to enter this competition 3 times, when no one else has. . .Shady like the project?
Fraggle Rock!!

The PS1 parties are way better than WTB, but they also draw an annoying element into LIC.
