Pigs Fly in Long Island City. We knew it would happen someday.

Pigs Fly on 5th St, between 49th & 50th Aves, Hunters Point, LIC
Well, if Pigs were going to Fly anywhere in NYC it would be here in LIC, where supposedly, we do things a little differently. It looks like beautification of construction sites sanctioned by the owners are becoming a trend in the hood. You can see Pigs Fly on 5th St between 49th & 50th Ave on the construction walls of 49-09 5th St, which incidentally is delivering a 5-story rental building in the forthcoming year (more on that soon, real estate junkies don’t panic).
The artists are part of The Space, a local LIC arts organization that help artists find workspace in LIC. “Finding space for artists in a condofying neighborhood is impossible! When Pigs Fly!” We rest our case.

A Space artist paints a mural on the walls of 5-16 49th Ave, Long Island City
The Space takes advantage of previously underutilized property in Long Island City, New York, to provide work space for artists, and a venue for community involvement in the arts, and works with developers and planners to ensure that there are affordable places for artists to live and work in Long Island City as our neighborhood develops and grows.
Space artists are granted work space, and repay the community through their participation in projects that better the quality of life in Queens Plaza and Long Island City. Past projects have included the development of sculpture gardens, mural painting, educational programs and shows for school children and the general public, and community cleanups.
The article says a 5 story rental building.
Hope that building is going to be better looking than the thing that is being built on the corner of Jackson and 11th. Another brick box with holes in it and a stupid ornamental window sill to dress it up (cheap looking).
Hey, Duane Reade opens tomorrow…so pigs are flying!
#1 must be another Charlie.
Charlie.
The Space does some great stuff. The main headquarters is closer to Queens Plaza and is definitely worth a look and they have a lot of good \first friday\ events.
Sorry that the little house that was there is gone. :(

What’s going to be built in this space? It’s been vacant for awhile now.
