Property owners don’t have the right to shit on a neighborhood #20. Where’s the respect for people who have their backyards & windows walled in by a building that was NEVER meant to be there in the first place. Twenty years ago, if a landlord tried to do half the shit that they are getting away with now, they would have had their knees broken and the police would have be more than happy to look the other way.

Absentee landlords are scum, plain and simple. They have absolutely no interest with a neighborhood other than raping it.

5pointz in not the last art studio building in lic. its just the most recognizable. the studios there are overpriced, so many artists have found space elsewhere in the area.

Mer John, the days of community gardens in areas like LIC are over, unless someone like Bette Midler comes along and bankrolls the concept. And it will be sad to see the last of the artists in LIC go, but it is inevitable.

Considering the economic downturn and how tight credit is and will be, most likely this will remain in place for a good number of years. Thank goodness they didn’t just tear it down and end up with a vacant lot, like so many other parts of LIC are/will become.

Perhaps we can get community gardens and water access during the down time in exchange for tax credits…

This is a sad day, i live in a new condo building in the area, and i love this building, its actually my favorite building in Queens, i wish we could get this building landmarked, its sad the most people, including politicians dont consider graffiti a true art…

I saw some of renderings. I heard they actually spend a decent amount of money on it. I believe it calls for mixed used tower - commercial on the bottom and condo on top. So, 7 train shouldn’t be a problem. They want to make it their signature building.
