BREAKING >> Fairway coming to LIC?

O.M.G. Can it really be?

liQcity is a M-F blog, but I’m busting out my computer on a Sunday, because the rumor of a Fairway coming to LIC is too good to wait until tomorrow.

liQcity received this juicy tip yesterday:

“I am a private chef in the city. I do my shopping everyday at Fairway on Broadway. There is a constant buzz in the store about the new Fairway that is going to open in LIC. I have been hearing this from the employees and managers of the store.”

A Fairway in LIC? My simple, humble human self is trying not to get too excited.

What's the difference between a Fairway a Whole Foods or an Amish market?

Whatever happened to just plain grocery stores?

That's great.

Clearly selfish but I hope that it's in the Hunter's point area.

I guess if they put one up in Red Hook it makes a lot of sense to put one up in LIC. LIC has better transportation, larger immediate and surrounding population and a demographic with growing incomes.

But is LIC's land as cheap as Red Hook's?

we need one by Arris

If it's a Fairway like the one on the Upper West Side - walkable, near transit, no parking lot - great.

If it's a Fairway like the Harlem and Red Hook ones, no way. I do not want a store with lots of parking, encouraging people to drive through my neighborhood to get groceries.

I moved from Cobble Hill to LIC this summer and there re NO good grocery stores here. Please let this be true.

whatever it is--Amish, Fairway or whatever, it will be great to have a supermarket in Hunterspoint! not that anyone is starving, but going the mile to C-Town (gaaaack) on 21st st, Key Food or the Garden in Greenpoint is a bit of a hike.

So there should be 3 big stores in LIC to go with that Associated or whatever up on 44th rd or st or whatever...

Hi everyone, C-Town is in Hunters Point, directly adjacent to the Hunters Point Historic District even. Hunters Point is everything between the Bridge and the railyard/creek.

They won't be putting it out by the water... not enough big cheap sites. I think it will be further north or east, maybe on Jackson or another main drag. I could see them putting one out on Queens Blvd, too. I'm sure it will be an auto-oriented joint ala Red Hook, alas. Not enough people living around here to support one in the neighborhood... it will be something drawing from miles around, all over western Queens / Northern Brooklyn. It'll be walkable from transit I presume, but also auto-friendly.

C-Town is a supermarket, and not that bad. If you need fancy stuff go to Grand Central Market. Basics at C-Town, luxe ingredients in Grand Central... what are you missing?

any word on where this is going?

why don't they consider the vacant bank across from LaGuardia Community College? It has been empty for ages.
