Fresh from the rumor mill: Drug bust at LIC’s 1063 Jackson Condos this wkend

1063 Jackson Condos, Long Island City
Well well well. Apparently fancy shmancy Long Island City condos have drug busts, too.
There’s a substantiated rumor floating around that there was a raid in the 1063 Jackson Ave condos this past weekend, but this ain’t some schoolboy prank. The massive bust supposedly unearthed a very large, but officially unknown amount of marijuana, and half a million bucks in cash.
Who said it wasn’t possible to keep a business going in this economy?
I guess how else can you afford to rent there?
It’s not a rental building, it’s a condo.
thats a lotta cash… the only way anyone can buy in this market anyways.
I think the pot should be distributed to locals. We so often miss out on our fair share.
Someone said it was half a ton of marijuana found there! I guess you really do need a big condo to fit all that.!
Is this true? I wonder if it was such large bust ~ why there wasn’t any news on it.
Yes this is true. It happened in one of the penthouses over the weekend. It’s all over the 1063 discussion group. The rest of building probably doesn’t want it out but hey…. I think the unit was rented out directly by the sponsor. It was a guy and his girlfriend.
I live in Ten63 and can confirm that this is true.
$500k and 500lbs of marijuana was seized from a penthouse.
The apartment was leased directly from the developer under another person’s name.
The raid was conducted by the US Marshals Service so likely this is a multi-state operation and we won’t hear anything about it until their ongoing investigation is complete.
Developers will take anyone’s money in this market. I wonder how many other LIC developers have done this too.
10, correct. It’s a problem not widely discussed. I ‘m not sure background checks are run the way an individual owner of a smaller rental might. I personally think pot should be legal but I would still be concerned with anyone doing $1/2M cash business out of their apartment living near me.
I live on this street and I was wondering does anyone know if the perpetrators are the girl with the little chihuahas and her “baggy pants” boyfriends that comes around? People seem to go in and out of her apartment like a revolving door.
This is a bit of a strech to make this into a case of developer greed. I doubt the rental application had drug dealer as occupation. #11, how do smaller rentals run their background checks? Do they contact the FBI, CIA and Interpol?
You make a great point, #13.
As far as we were told, the person whose name was on the lease passed a criminal background check.
#12 Not them.
The baggy pants guy and chihuahua girl should be arrested anyway for grave sartorial offenses.
Are you guys really judging a couple you just see walking on the street? You people are crazy!
#17, stop it with the judgement policing! Have a sense of humor-it’s Friday.
Are you guys saying that Paris Hilton lives in your building? I hope not or else I will have to move out of LIC. :)
#16 what are their offenses?
and does anyone know who they are?
13, 14 – background checks are routine today in the rental & job markets. The small cost can be worth avoiding potential grief. No, you cannot rely on it to accurately tell you if a person is ‘clean’ but if you do find a clear flag it certainly can tell you to stay away. A clear flag for example would be someone who has skipped out on two landlords.
I don’t know that it has anything to do with this as pot dealers would likely have fairly clean records. My concern would be who is coming to pick up such large amounts of either cash or herb.
Legalizing pot would solve this mess. I don’t see what the big deal is. Almost everyone smoke pot once in a while and it would be great for the economy.
+1
nonsense
Agree #22, it would stop the drug wars in mexico which are spilling into our street, saving billions on catching and prosecution, generate taxes (tax the hell out of it like cigarettes), reduce crime by taking it out of the seedy criminal world, and probably create jobs. Ifanywon wants to waste their life away smoking pot, I say let them. Its no different than the whino on the street corner. Its such a contracdiction. Alcohol and tabbaco are legal and have the same if not worse effects.
And the state could generate income from taxation and not have to continue encouraging senseless development that sits empty and bankrupting the economy.
Wow, that is a lot of weed. What does an ounce cost anyway, these days?
Much like the wars in Iraq and Afganistan the war against drugs can not be won/ We should be pulling our troops out of that war as well.
Townie, what are you smokin’?
Probably nothing now that the local dealer is outta da piktcha.
28, it’s you again.
Again someone likes impersonating me. I think you are a cowardly little weasel.
28 is NOT MY POST.
answer to #12
I find it amusing that in this day and age people still resort to such ignorance as to judge others by their attire. Most of the world is moving towards a more meaningful way of life but some are still stuck in their predjudices.
A little knowledge is a dangerous thing. Rumors can get out of hand and hurt innocent people. True, there was a bust. That’s all you know. To go on about specific people just by the way they look or dress is not only irresponsible, but borders on slander. #12, you need to be careful. You could have caused the girl undue stress or worse; the loss of a job, undue suspicion, etc. Trying someone in the court of public opinion can cause irreversible harm. How would you like it if it happened to you?
You people need to grow up and find something worthwhile to do with your free time–like volunteer, maybe.
Would 32 and 33 please relax? It was immediately clarified that Mr. Baggy Pants and Miss Chihuahua had nothing at all to do with the drug bust. The subsequent posts just had a little fun on their behalf.
Sorry, if you’re still slouching around with pants around your ass or have a fondness for twitching tiny rat-like dogs, you are fair game for a little ridicule.
That’s all it is.
This isn’t about her little dogs(who are adorable) or the baggy pants. #12 was simply ASKING if it was them involved NOT accusing them. Since nobody actually knows who it was or can give specific descriptions it’s still safe to make your own assumptions as each person is entitled to their opinion. One doesn’t have to be apologetic for wondering whether the increasing ghetto-ish people in the neighborhood have shady sources of income. Statistics speak for themselves and the media helps to stir the paranoia. Moreover, this is a public blog where all comments are welcome. Since the comments are never officially fact, they aren’t taken too seriously and therefore not slanderous. If you’re easily offended by an opinion different from your own, you should probably avoid reading the comments.
watch this thread get censored, too like the one about the Lounge 47 guy…people are just too sensitive.
increasing ghetto-ish people in the neighborhood?? are you serious? I know both the “baggy pants” guy and the “girl with the dogs”. The way you dress and the kind of dogs you own don’t warrant these types of comments associated with a drug bust. The problem with these public forums is that you can post anonymously. I guarantee if you had to register with a name and everyone could see all your posts, most of these comments wouldn’t be here. I can’t imagine some of the people who posted the rude comments above would want to expose themselves as the inconsiderate a’holes they are. Instead you come here to post your comments and release your built up anger towards… who knows what… and nobody has to know it is you. Both of them could care less about these posts but I bet you would be pretty angry if this thread was littered with rude comments about you.
Word!
#37 waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!
I live in the building too. I think I see Ms. Chihuahua girl and Baggy Pants Man all the time at Riviera’s on Steinway st. I believe she dances there and he goes and waits for her. He’s always there and I see them fighting all the time.
#16, you’re so right, there such hideous dressers.
Mr. Baggy Pants and Miss Chihuahua Girl are rapidly becoming the most famous couple in the neighborhood that most people have no clue who they are.
Give it a rest already! If they were involved in any illegal activity, they’d be behind bars. They’re obviously not so drop it. It’s obviously someone else becasue someone was arrested. The young couple pay a mortgage or rent here like the rest of us and therefore have the right to live here as the rest of us whether or not you like their style. Get over it! From the people I’ve seen around here looking like a bunch of greasy bums, you have no business criticizing the. People took a simple description of someone’s clothing out of context. Nobody here knows their name so they were described by the way they dress and pets they own. While it may be natural to be suspicious of others, it’s not necessary to demonize people who’ve nothing wrong.
Hmm, tiny pets maybe bad, belts probably good. What if I shave, too?
Back to the drug bust
does anyone living in the buildign know whether the tenants occupying the penthouse have been evicted or are going to be evicted from 1063 Jackson? It must be a bit of a concern for the other residents to know that all sorts of people could be going in and out of the building for purposes of acquiring drugs?
What if I shave AND put on a tie?

Seems like there’s some ’sweetleaf’ at another location besides the coffee shop.
