6, where do you get these ideas? Some long timers are expressing opinions based on experience. they are not saying they are god or that they are right. Do you mean to say there is nothing in life where you have enough experience to voice an opinion?

Many old timers will preface their remarks in fact by saying “it’s just my opinion…” I’ve observed quite the opposite with some newcomers who seem far more ready to shout down anyone that does not agree with them.

But can we stop with the insults?

No, it was designed to minimize the opinions of long time residents who feel that your right to an opinion is directly proportunate to the number of years you’ve lived here. #4 clearly feels this way and quickly jumped in in defense. In their eyes the voice of a lifetime resident is a close as you can humanly get to god. Their words are to be cherished and studied. Only the words of a lifetime resident whose family has lived in LIC for multiple generations can be taken more seriously. Lowest on the scale is anyone who lives in one of the new buildings. Tower residents much like the slaves in the early day of this country are only allowed to have three-fifths of an opinion.

No aspersions to 3′s intelligence but the comment is simple minded. Nobody thinks lifetime or long time status makes you automatically an expert. But it certainly means you have likely experienced traffic patterns and their evolution more thoroughly than some newcomer genius who thinks he knows it all.

Comment’s like 3 are designed to minimize the opinions of long time residents without adding anything meaningful to the discussion.
