Public Hearing Notice on proposed strip club in Long Island City

Cityscapes strip club in Queens Plaza closed down last year, Long Island City.

Despite Long Island City’s ‘gentrifying’ trend in the last decade, it seems our hood’s industrial nooks and crannies are still attractive to strip club owners. Although, before we get into the new one on the way, we should mention that one of the more notorious strip clubs in LIC, Cityscapes in Queens Plaza, has been shut down for sometime now. But that does not seem to be fazing new proprietors…

CB2 has sent out a public hearing notice about a… ahem, gentlemen’s club application called Gypsy Rose for 42-50 21st St, LIC. The public hearing will be held at the Waterfront Crabhouse, 2-03 Borden Ave, 2nd Fl, LIC on Thursday, June 23rd @ 6pm.

Though the spot is out of the fray, our money’s on CB2 not being in favor of any strip club coming to the hood. Especially considering last year when they sought to landmark a building to keep a strip club from landing on another spot on 21st St. So this public hearing should be interesting. Bring popcorn. And small bills.

Yuck. I agree with CB2, no more strip clubs in LIC. Totally degrades the character of the neighborhood. There are plenty of strip clubs in the city, go there if you need that.

What’s the big deal? Strip clubs are everywhere. No different than any other bar really, in terms of the impact to the neighborhood. It’s out of the way, this is a free country supposedly. I don’t see the problem.

“Strip clubs are everywhere”? Are you kidding me? No, sorry No. 2, there’s no way you can make these sleazy, degrading places respectable. You can call them “gentlemen’s” clubs, dress them up with velvet ropes and red carpets, and they are still scummy places that bring down the neighborhood.

#2 you have a screw loose somewhere in your brain. We don’t need another strip club. There is one on Vernon already, and it’s seedy and dirty. I don’t care where it is, I don’t want them anywhere near where I live. And I don’t care if that’s NIMBY, that’s just reality.

“Especially considering last year when they sought to landmark a building to keep a strip club from landing on another spot on 21st St.”
This is actually the same address as the proposal last year. wonder if its the same people?

4, don’t apologize for being a NIMBY. In fact, we need much more NIMBY-ism in LIC if it means keeping strip joints and other garbage out of the area. The place has been shit on for far too long.

Is this place properly zoned for an adult establishment, if so, why is the CB trying to play dictators, last I checked this is the USA! Not everyone likes strip clubs and thats cool, so don’t go! If you don’t like asian food, should we not let them open up in the “hood”?

Name just 1 strip club that opened up and over 10 years property value down and crime rate went up, and Ill name you 10 clubs that over 10 years property value went higher and crime went down. This is BS. Dont like, dont go! Bottom line its a legal business that pays taxes and employees people!

I think a strip club is just plain gross. Sorry, it’s not about property values… it’s about the sex trafficking of young women for what is basically prostitution. These are young girls who are forced into sex work for whatever reason – if you think most want to be doing it, think again – so it’s not an innocent business. I know people disagree on this, but that is why I wouldn’t want it in the neighborhood or at all. Support getting rid of it – it is also very close to a high school… it’s just not a healthy element for the neighborhood. Help CB2 fight it.

#13 – I visit these establishments, and you are so far from the truth, and you are assuming this theory! These clubs are closely monitored on a monthly basis by ice a dpt. in the NYPD, and there is no club owner or operator that would risk his personal freedom or multimillion dollar business over sex trafficking, when there are plenty of legal girls here, that are single mothers, students, ect. trying to do this job as way to better there life or support there child.

#14 Do you live in the neighborhood? I do, 4 blocks from this proposed business and believe me I am totally against it. I went to the hearing and all the surrounding business’ are against it too. As a resident of LIC and Queens, I am offended that the first thing people will see as they exit the Queensboro bridge and enter Queens is this establishment, and I am sure that Gypsy Rose is turning in her grave at the thought that a strip club has taken her name. This is the 21st century, why do we still have these obnoxious clubs that demean women and are just a legal form of prostitution. I don’t know of any little girl who says ” I want to be a stripper when I grow up” .

This is an unfair judgement of our industry that have no solid evidence of there vision of LIC. If you feel we are being unfairly targeted and a case of censorship please visit our facebook page for support.
