PUBLIC HEARING: Strip Club Gypsy Rose still fighting for a spot in LIC

The namesake Gypsy Rose Lee.
It’s round 2 or 10 of Long Island City vs the Strip Club, and who knows who’s winning, but we’ll find out more at CB2′s public hearing next week.
The proposed ‘Gentlemen’s Club’ called Gypsy Rose (named after the burlesque dancer pictured) at 42-50 21st St in LIC, is going before CB2 regarding their liquor license next Wed, Aug 3rd 6:30pm at CB2′s office at 43-22 50th St, Sunnyside. While community board hearings in general are action packed, this one is destined to be a blockbuster.
Strip Club, schmip club. Funny thing is, in reading CB’s announcement of the public hearing, the OTHER entity going before CB2 for a liquor license at next week’s hearing is actually way more interesting:
There’s a new ‘neighborhood restaurant’ in town, called the Corner Bistro, headed for 47-18 Vernon Blvd, which is the site of the old Cassino restaurant. It’s been rough times for that little intersection on Vernon @ 47th Road. Kitty corner to each other have been the defunct LIC Corner Deli and until now, desolate Cassino restaurant. Last year a car crashed into the front of Masso, while Just Things, the mysteriously houred thrift store, has held the fort down without nary an incident. But a new traffic light and a Corner Bistro… could this harken a new era?
Who knows. In any case, Vernon’s getting another restaurant, and a strip club still struggles to sprout in LIC.
There are not enought resturants. Anyone who says that only eats out on rare occasions.
I agree with #2. Forget about other retail…like what? Every other place besides restaurants close down within 18 months.
What do you mean “…while Just Things, the mysteriously houred thrift store…”? Just Things equally quirky website (www.justthingslic.com) clearly states its hours: “whenever here, but mostly wed – sat: 12 – 5 and by chance.” Ya gotta love ‘em.
Corner Bistro’s $2.75 McSorleys beers should do well in this neighborhood!
It looks great! http://cornerbistrony.com/
And I agree with #2.. how can we have too many restaurants? Are you serious. We just need different kinds, that’s all. But the more the better! Bring it.
it’s time for another strip club
I don’t understand the problem everyone has with strip clubs. They are legal. A stripper is a profession just like any other… I’m not sure whoring yourself on wall street to screw over the world and make a buck is any better… in fact it seems much worse. It’s not like nudity will hit the streets…. seriously, since when is nyc so uptight and closed minded? Sex is really no big deal…. it’s only what you make of it. And before people jump down my throat, I’m talking about everything being legal and safe for the girls. I am NOT talking about things like sex trafficking young girls, that is horrible and despicable. But getting a lapdance… really?
LIC is the proper place for a strip club. Let’s not go ruining nice neighborhoods.
What we really need is a burlesque show around here! Like the new one in Red Hook.
This is an unfair judgement of our industry that have no solid evidence of there vision of LIC. If you feel we are being unfairly targeted and a case of censorship please visit our facebook page for support.

For the first time I’m starting to feel like we have too many restaurants, and not enough other stuff. We don’t need another bistro, though I’m sure it will be nice. We need some retail stores.
