Good Eats in LIC: Hunters Point dishes up some serious seasonal seafood

King Crab Legs, $28.95 at Waterfront Crabhouse, 2-03 Borden Ave, LIC

We’ve started another new series over here at liQcity: Good Eats in LIC. This is not to profile restaurants, just some our favorite dishes in the hood. Since it’s high season for local seafood, here’s some great local options:

The Waterfront Crabhouse, back & better than ever, is serving up a giant order of King Crab Legs right now for $28.95. Great for sharing, and served steamed, broiled, or scampi. Can also be ordered as an appetizer, served cold with homemade mustard sauce, for $23.95.

Sea Harmony Entree, $24 at Manducatis Rustica, 46-31 Vernon Blvd, LIC

Manducatis Rustica is mixing it up with Sea Harmony, an entree featuring broiled Scallops, Tilapia, Wild-Salmon and Tuna served with greens and capers for $24. Entrees can be family style at Rustica, so this dish pairs nicely with some pasta (no cream sauce with the fish for purists).

Lobster Roll, $12 at BANY Asian Fusion, 10-57 Jackson Ave, LIC

Heading into the budget offerings, we find ourselves swooning over BANY‘s Tempura Lobster Roll, also filled with Crab and avocado, wrapped with cucumber, served with a whole Lobster claw tempura, and a sweet & spicy sauce. $12 bucks for Lobster in LIC… not bad.

Shrimp Taco, $3.95 at The Creek, 10-93 Jackson Ave, LIC

And last, but certainly not least, we arrive at the Creek’s Shrimp Taco, featuring grilled or beer-battered shrimp with cabbage salsa & wasabi sauce on a 6-inch flour tortilla for $3.95.

If there’s other seafood dishes in LIC that you’re a fan of, feel free to post in the comments. Next week: Best Burgers. Please email us your recommendations (info@liqcity.com) for the Best Burger in LIC, and we will happily do the due diligence.

Bon Appetito!

How ’bout Sage General Store’s Lobster Roll Fridays?

WAterfront crabhouse is a bit too kitschy for me, but I do agree that their crab legs are out of this world. It’s best on a summer day outside on the picnic tables. That and the buckets of little crabs or steamers. They definitely know what they are doing with the food… with the decor… well, to each his own.

A piece about seafood and not a single example of sushi from among the more than dozen places in the neighborhood? Amazing!

All the sushi in LIC sucks except for BANY. I wouldn’t write home about it either. Though you guys need to stop being so critical… it’s just a highlight of a few dishes. Time Out does the same thing… just relax people. Have some crabs. Suggest sushi be covered. Don’t be an asshole like #3. Who also has no sense of taste if he/she thinks this neighborhood is filled with good sushi. JUST ONE PLACE. Lucky Mojo’s had the title of best LIC sushi until they stopped serving it and continued to serve their horrible, third-rate BBQ crap. The sushi was so much better. Shi’s sushi is OK on a good day, and Sushi Siam should just pack it up and give up. No where else serves sushi in LIC, so #3 you must have a little too much mercury running around your system.

The new Filipino place serves Sushi too, though I’ve not heard good things about that place.

Shi has very good sushi, I’m not sure what #4 is talking about.

#3 isn’t a lobster roll sushi? liQcity does a great job at covering LIC… don’t listen to the haters. I love this site. And I love the look of those crab legs.

Sushi sen nin on 33rd in Manhattan is unbelievable. Hane sushi in midtown is also amazing. Lucky mojo’s sushi was top notch. I agree that LIC sushi in inedible. I really hope that we get just one amazing sushi place here. I would gladly pay $100 per person for the same quality.
