Arabic Music and Bellydancing tonight ‘Live at the Gantries’ Hunters Point

Zikrayat, Live at the Gantries, Gantry Park, Long Island City, Queens, NYC, 11101

ZIKRAYAT, a Long Island City based Arabic Music & Dance Ensemble

The ‘Live at the Gantries’ summer performance series brought to us by the QCA continues tonight at Gantry Park with an Arabic Music and Dance Ensemble, ZIKRAYAT.

ZIKRAYAT (”memories” in Arabic) is a Long Island City based ensemble of musicians and dancers dedicated to opresenting the traditional repertory of Arabi music, song and dance. ZIKRAYAT highlights little-known gems from the “golden age” of Egyptian Cinema, as well as original compositions. ZIKRAYAT’s musicians capture the original spirit of the music; while ZIKRAYAT dancers focus on authentic Egyption Raqs Sharqi, especially as embodied by legends.

Gantry Park, 7pm.

looks like it might rain though.

I’m pretty sure Arabic pertains only to the language. Arab Music and Bellydancing might be a better fit (though I’m not 100% on this).

#2 - I believe you are right - I read something about this on another blog recently. “Arabic” refers to language. “Arabian music” would refer to the ethnicity of the type of music. either way - it sounds like fun!

Once again thanks to LiQcity for the post. With all the local support we’ve reached a larger audience each week. It’s been wonderful to see each and every one of you at the shows. Come out next week for the grand finale!

I live right near here and I listen/watch from my apt. It’s great to have a program there every week.
