Long Island City Boathouse hosts fundraiser. Summer’s coming LIC.

LIC Boathouse, Long Island City

The Long Island City Community Boathouse is hosting a fundraiser on Thursday, March 12 from 6 to 9 pm at the Foundry at 42-38 Ninth Street in LIC.

Every summer, the all-volunteer LIC Community Boathouse introduces New Yorkers to our harbor and estuary by kayak and canoe. We host free weekly paddle trips, both long and short, with an emphasis on connecting children, and those otherwise without the means, to their environment. We launch from Anable Basin in LIC and Hallets Cove in Astoria.

Our fundraiser, which we’ve dubbed “Break the Ice,” is a come-as-you-are casual event, featuring the surf rock band Bongo Surf, food from Tuk Tuk, Manducatis Rustica and Sage American Kitchen and a silent auction for items like 10 Tickets to the Queen of Hearts party boat. There’s a suggested minimum donation of $20, and every ticket comes with the chance to win a $100 gift certificate from Jersey Paddler.

The summer is not coming anytime soon. Is Water Taxi Beach still open in LIC or is it moving to Governor’s Island? Or is that just an other location?
