Celebrate Halloween with local events from 10am-2pm in Long Island City

Tuesday 10/27

  • Materials for the Arts presents a family-friendly Ribbon Cutting Event (to celebrate their recent 10,000 SF expansion) & Masked Marvelous Cocktail Party on October 27th in their LIC space, featuring food, drink, and entertainment, 6-9pm. 33-00 Northern Blvd, 3rd Floor, LIC, 718.729.3001

Wednesday 10/28

  • The Grand Guignol lives at the Secret Theatre as they celebrate Edgar Allen Poe’s bicentennial with stories such as ‘Tell Tale Heart’ and ‘The Raven’ along with an original play, ‘The Poacher’s Game.’ Tickets $15 or $10 if in costume on 31st.   • Don’t miss the last Movie Night at The Space. Featured film is 1999’s ‘Spaced: The Complete Series’ (a 3-disc series). Slacker 20-something artist Tim (Simon Pegg) and his brooding writer flatmate Daisy (Jessica Hynes) do everything possible to avoid adulthood in this surreal sitcom described by star Pegg as “a cross between ‘The Simpsons,’ ‘The X Files’ and ‘Northern Exposure.’” 42-16 West St, LIC, 718.752.0331

Saturday 10/31

  • Celebrate Halloween in the neighborhood with the 6th Annual LIC Halloween Parade & Fun Stuff. Starts at 10am @ LIC Kids Center (5-02 50th Ave) with face painting, pumpkin decorating, arts, crafts & fun. Line up at LIC Kids @ 11:30am to trick or treat in LIC, and then return to Manducatis Rustica (46-31 Vernon Blvd) from 12:30-2pm for scary stories and more fun. Come in costume to all festivities, $10 per family with 1 child – $5 per extra sibling 1 year and older.

  • Save the date: Queens Council on the Arts presents their 3rd annual Queens Arts Connection citywide networking event on Saturday, November 7th, 2-5pm at the United Nations Federal Credit Union in LIC.   • ‘EDOKKO: Growing Up A Foreigner in Wartime Japan’ on November 8th @ 3pm at Noguchi Museum. Isaac Shapiro, a founding Noguchi Museum trustee & longtime friend of Isamu Noguchi, will read from his soon to be released memoirs which chronicle his family’s travels under persecution during the early 20th century and his subsequent career in law and the arts. FREE with museum admission.

  • Coming up at the Chocolate Factory: THROW on November 10th: “Sip your cheap beer and enjoy as artists test out new performance in this bi-monthly series.” Also, ‘Selective Memory’, November 2nd-21st, showings TBA: “A real time video performance about nostalgia for relationships that never took place, events which never happened; the soundtrack to a film which was never made, but which everyone remembers; exploiting the misappropriation of “real” sounds and images to confound, distort, remake and ultimately erase the truth.”

It seems like you are just paying for snacks and facepainting etc… I’m sure you could just skip that part and walk in the parade. I assume.
