  • This summer’s Live at the Gantries FREE performance series continues at LIC’s Gantry Plaza State Park July 28 with a performance from Pachamama Peruvian Arts. 50th Ave & the East River, LIC

  • The Queens Players, in association with the Secret Theatre and lit mag The Ampersand Review, present: The White Box Theatre Festival, an evening of new one act plays in two alternating programs of six plays each.   • Socrates Sculpture Park‘s FREE summer Outdoor Cinema series continues with ‘Lou Reed’s Berlin’ from the US on July 29 at 7pm. 32-01 Vernon Blvd (@ Broadway), LIC, 718.956.1819

  • Flux Factory‘s Going Places (Doing Stuff), an adventurous social experiment of artist-led bus tours to secret destinations, returns this summer for Part 2 through Sept 5. July tours are already filled so watch the website to sign up for tours in August. 39-31 29th Street, LIC

  • FALLOW, presented by guest curator Bridget Stixrood in collaboration with Anonymous Gallery and Flux Factory. “Artists Mary Mattingly, Brendan Fernandes and Artemis Louis examine American culture from the point of our present economic state.” Exhibition runs through July 31 at Flux. 39-31 29th Street, LIC

  • In partnership with the LIC Community Boathouse (LICCB), Socrates Sculpture Park offers FREE canoeing and kayaking in Hallets Cove through October 25. 718.228.9214

  • LICBDC‘s Networking Night on the rooftop of the Ravel Hotel coming up on August 11, 6-8:30pm.

  • SculptureCenter‘s Architectures of Crisis/Architectures of Resistance has been rescheduled for Monday, July 27 at 7pm, featuring Teddy Cruz & the Center for Urban Pedagogy’s founder Damon Rich, discussing the economic crisis in relation to their current & ongoing work.

  • Two of Noguchi Museum‘s Summer Public Programs approaching in early August: First Fridays on August 7 with free admission, extended hours until 8:30pm, and beer/wine cash bar available from 6-8:30pm; Summer Music in the Garden on August 9 with the American Contemporary Music Ensemble (ACME), “dedicated to the outstanding performance of contemporary masterworks of the 20th and 21st centuries.”

  • Hip to Hip Theatre Company presents ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ at Socrates Sculpture Park on August 15, 5-6:30pm, “one of Shakespeare’s most hilarious and enchanting romantic comedies, full of magic, mishap, music and adventure.”

Notice in the picture that its also a night out for doggies at Socrates Sculpture park? Socrates is very dog friendly at all times.

Also notice the condition of the lawn as compared to Gantry Park.

That’s great that Socrates Park is so pooch friendly. One more reason why Gantry park should stay dog-free!

We’ll see how the grass at Gantry holds up after it’s been around as long as Socrates has.
