  • CB2 has scheduled a Regular Monthly Meeting and Public Hearing (double whammy agenda) of the Full Board Thursday, June 3rd at 7pm at Sunnyside Community Services. 43-31 39th Street, Sunnyside

  • BBQ for Bloggers & Writers at 5:30pm on June 3rd at LIC’s L Haus. Please join Queens Council on the Arts for a relaxing evening BBQ and networking event for writers and bloggers as part of a new initiative to develop and strengthen the art of writing in the boor of Queens. Music, BBQ and live social media will converge on-site in the yard at L Haus. RSVP here.

  • Opening tonight at Secret Theatre: Ortonesque from June 3rd-27th, “Joe Orton, iconic British playwright, was a rising star whose talent and promise were cut short when he was brutally murdered by his boyfriend. The Queens Players proudly present some of Mr. Orton’s best work.” Also coming up: Shakespeare’s Taming of the Shrew from June 10th-26th.

Friday 6/4

  • Little Closets holds French Class every Friday @ 11am for newborns to toddlers & their parents/caregivers – sign up your child every Monday (beginning this month, $5 fee per 30-min class). In each session, “caregivers and children will learn interactive songs, rhymes and finger play in French. Exposing children to multiple languages early on has been shown to positively impact language acquisition and expand vocabulary.   • The Yoga Room LIC is offering ‘YogaSpand’, a yoga class with a live DJ. Accompanied by turntables; part asana choreography, part spontaneous expression, YogaSpanda seeks to explore the boundaries that keep our-selves and our practices limited or locked in by riding the waves of breath and music. Saturday 6/5

  • PURVES BLOCK PARTY: Mount Sinai School of Medicine, and the National Children’s Study (NCS), a landmark research project in Queens to improve children’s health, are hosting the first annual NCS Block Party, ‘Living Green & Healthy in LIC’, on Purves Street (Block 44-0) off of Jackson Avenue on Saturday June 5th from 12-5pm. LIC restaurants and businesses will be participating, and activities will carry the message of healthy living, from a seasonal produce cooking demonstration to a “What does it mean to be green?” art contest.

  • CrossFit LIC is still holding their FREE Saturday classes at 10 or 11am – no CrossFit experience required. “The training session takes about one hour and consists of a warm-up, skills required for the exercises to be performed, workout and stretches” and you can sign up using their Online Scheduler. 5-26 47th Ave, LIC, 646.415.8363

  • Flux Factory‘s new show called Science Fair opens tonight, June 5th and runs until the 13th, “inspired by grade-school education fairs, with presentation booths and interactive experiments. The Science Fair will showcase over two dozen projects including an artist-run weather station, homemade hot air balloons, and robots that draw.” For more info contact they@thetheyco.com.

  • Local Project introduces a new Summer series of Point of View workshops starting in June, including: Saving Lives at Nighttime (a five session DJ course), Art of the Critic, Watercolor Painting, and Collage Workshop. All of the workshops have limited space – cost is $50 per 5 week course. Registration in advance is required, last day to register is May 29th at Local Project space from 2pm-6pm.   • Now in its second year, the Queens Art Express spring festival is happening Thurs, June 10th – Sun, June 13th, and will feature performances, exhibitions, art events along the entire Queens route of the No. 7 train. Many Long Island City stops. Sponsored by the Queens Council on the Arts.

  • Knight’s Move performance series at SculptureCenter continues on June 3rd: “An immersive evening of music and live performance features Tom Thayer’s eccentric combination of sound, puppetry, and animation; Yuji Agematsu’s durational exploration of NYC via slide projection and field recordings; and solo performances by Circuit Des Yeux (Haley Fohr), Tom Kovachevich, and Mother Earth (Kyle Clyde and Dylan Hay).”

  • The Back to Basics Boot Camp adult workshop series is continuing at Socrates Sculpture Park on June 20th from 2-4pm: Cooking With Fire with The Brooklyn Kitchen & The Meat Hook. Call 718.956.1819 to register.
