Last Wed ther was a huge event in the neighborhood by the Park and on Sat, there was another neighborhood party on 47th. Neither of these were announced here…why not?

I think the proprietor is on vacation and forgot to tell everybody and didn’t hire a backup. Or did hire a backup who is a lousy temp.

Markit on 44th Drive near 23rd opened last week and the owner is dismayed that it didn’t get a mention. I explained to him about the sorry situation over here.

It’s a soft opening : they are serving only breakfast and lunch and getting the kinks worked out with the Citibank crowd before opening for dinner in 3-4 weeks. The dining room is lovely and warm and the menu looks promising, comforting and locavore. I cannot wait to try it!

Plus M Wells got a bunch more press and there were “crickets” on this site.

This is a blog that cannot be done from a remote location. You have to be here to get the buzz.

I am disappointed. But I’m sure he will be back and all will be forgiven shortly.

The party last Saturday on 47th was a block party for block residents only. It wasn’t open to all.

If the people who live in the new towers on Center Boulevard had a private block party closed to everyone except those who live on the waterfront, you’d hear a bunch of people screaming. Guaranteed.

Regarding the block party, why should it have been open to the public? The people that live on 47th did the work and provided the food and beverages. There were plenty of people there who were invited and do not live on 47th. I’ve never heard of a block party being opened to the public for free.

I know there’s a long tradition of block parties on that street. I was just making the point that people in the neighborhood are very quick to point out examples of exclusivity among those who live in the towers. Personally, I always disliked block parties. You should never feel like an unwanted spectator in your own neighborhood. If people want to have private gatherings, they should go in their back yards or rent out a hall for the night.

#6 Do you really care?

#7 Anonymous / 1 year, 6 months ago

No, actually, I don’t really care. This blog is so dead, I thought I’d try to stir up some trouble.

#8 Anonymous / 1 year, 6 months ago

#8 Okay that’s funny!! You’re right, the heat must’ve gotten to everyone, no good fights lately!

The other event overlooked by the person in charge of this blog WAS open to the public and was a hige sucsess. The event was National Night Out Against Crime hosted by the 108 Precinct and held in John Andrews Playground with lots of fun and games for kiddies.. The roster of guest speakers included Mayor Bloomberg, Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney and State Assemblywoman Cathy Nolan. In conjunction with NationaNight Out,Hunters Point Community Development Corp. held a Community Unity Event with a free buffet for all. Food and beverages were provided by many local restaurants and delis. The event was co-ordinated by Terri Adams President of HPCDC BTW, It was last Tuesday not Wednesday.

I guess that the cop event wasn’t hip enough for liqcity. If the cops gave French lessons to the kids, maybe it would have been listed.

#11 Anonymous / 1 year, 6 months ago

Pls….this blog is is not even hip…and why didn’t the cops advertise elsewhere, like outside the subway station?

#12 Anonymous / 1 year, 6 months ago

#12 You are right. Very few people that I know go on to any of these neighborhood blogs. Without advertising, for example like you mentioned out side the subway station, most are unaware of these events.

Hi Commenters, We’re on a slight blogging vacation – normal posting will resume shortly. In the meantime thanks for patiently bearing with us.

If you’d like a public event covered in the weekly listings, please email us the deets by the Friday before the event. If an event’s not listed, it’s because no one got us the info in time. Get that to us and we’ll post it.

Cheerio – Nancy
