Monday 6/28

  • Slow Food NYC is hosting ‘The Queens Slur‘ at Dutch Kills Bar from 7-9pm. “Dutch Kills will have a drink special for all Slur attendees. As an extra treat, we will also have hors d’œuvre celebrating all things bacon (Baby B.L.T.’s and Bacon & Gruyere Tarts… Yum!) provided by Sage General Store, the near-by restaurant and catering company that works with local farmers and suppliers.” 27-24 Jackson Ave, LIC

  • Live at the Gantries, LIC’s only outdoor summer music festival sponsored by the QCA, continues on Tuesday, June 29th with Pass Kontrol, “A Fierce Set of Sweaty, Summer, New York City Rock n’ Roll”. 7pm at the Gantry State Park, LIC waterfront. 50th Ave & the East River

Friday 7/2

  • Little Closets holds French Class every Friday @ 11am for newborns to toddlers & their parents/caregivers – sign up your child every Monday (beginning this month, $5 fee per 30-min class). In each session, “caregivers and children will learn interactive songs, rhymes and finger play in French. Exposing children to multiple languages early on has been shown to positively impact language acquisition and expand vocabulary.   • Space Womb is hosting an opening party for their latest show by abstract artist Goowon Kang on Friday, July 2nd. Exhibit runs until July 10th. 24-48 Jackson Ave, LIC

Saturday 7/3

  • PS1 MoMA‘s latest courtyard installation ‘Pole Dance‘, will offer an interactive environment for the 2010 Warm Up music series which begins on Saturday, July 3rd, from 12-9pm. FREE to LIC residents with proof of residency. 22-25 Jackson Ave @ 46th Ave, LIC

  • CrossFit LIC is still holding their FREE Saturday classes at 10 or 11am – no CrossFit experience required. “The training session takes about one hour and consists of a warm-up, skills required for the exercises to be performed, workout and stretches” and you can sign up using their Online Scheduler. 5-26 47th Ave, LIC, 646.415.8363

  • It looks like the LIC Greenmarket read the liQcity readers’ commentary about staying open later on their move to Wednesdays, because they’ve extended the afternoon hours from 3pm to 7pm. So check out the farmer’s market at 48th Ave & Vernon Blvd, now on Wednesdays from 8am-7pm starting on July 7th, until Nov 24th.

  • Socrates Sculpture Park is hosting Outdoor Cinema 2010, the ’12th Annual Festival of International Film, Music, Dance and Food Celebrating the Cultural Diversity of Queens’.   • Flux Factory‘s new show called Science Fair runs until the 13th, “inspired by grade-school education fairs, with presentation booths and interactive experiments.   • Knight’s Move now on view at SculptureCenter.   • Dutch Kills Gallery‘s new show by Ellen Schneiderman runs until July 4th, “Ellen Schneiderman’s mixed media works are influenced by systems that categorize species and specimens, macro and microbiological forms, and her own tendencies to organize, record, and contain. In her paintings, nested rectangles of cut paper house globs of dried paint and create imperfect grids. Inked patterns are covered by poured acyclic mediums to become new images based on actions of chance.” 37-24 24th Street, Suite 402, LIC
