Right — the old “stomach virus” excuse. As a teenager, I used that one all the time on my parents when I woke up Sunday mornings with a hangover. It’s the equivalent of “the dog ate my homework” for drunks.

There has been some great music at LIC Bar that has not been loud. Jazz groups and folk music have been absolutely stellar. These groups are quality and don’t need to substitute decibels for talent. Now of course I get that rock is a loud experience. It’s just not appropriate in a an outdoor venue that reverberates throughout the neighborhood as late as midnight.

My hope is that LIC Bar has the sense to not offend the surrounding community in their eagerness to bring in the bucks. The steady local clientele should be worth more than the rude party crowd.

I don’t mind music long as it isn’t LOUD and earsplitting. Why do they think it’s quality when it’s loud. What time did you leave#26?

I think all the bars in LIC are way too small to have bands play (with the exception of Cassino) or may be they bring in smaller speakers. I love live music, but leave whenever any of them come to one of bars here on Vernon – it kills my ears and the whole place vibrates. Not sure these old buildings can handle it.

Sorry #22 that was me. I was not feeling well and subsequently found out that I had a stomach virus. My friend was taking me to my doctor when he tried to hail a cab. I live in LIC.

I agree #24. I think there’s new staff, not as nice as before and it has changed the atmosphere. It’s such a beautiful place.

I’m not sure what you are driving at. The main point is that several of us are disappointed to say the least that an otherwise great place like LIC Bar wants to cater to and encourage a frat house environment. It discourages me from supporting their business.

Did you ask where they were going and why they were going there? People who live in LIC occasionaly leave LIC. I know its shocking, but it is true. And what type of free time to you have to be observing peoples comings and goings?

#16, They were outside of the hood because after they vomited on the business across the street the folks tried to hale a cab and the cab refused them. They were that shnockered. I doubt they were taking a cab to City Lights.

I went to the LHaus breakfast and was really surprised/impressed at how nice the apts are. The building is not very pretty from the outside, but the interior has very nice features.

LIC Bar is really pushing the tolerance window. I too go there quite often. But Saturday was too much. I don’t understand why they can keep the volume level normal and other nights they encourage indecent behavior by playing really bad loud music. It bothers me that people come from out side of the neighborhood come to use LIC as a toilet. I have no problem with visitors as long as they treat LIC respectfully. And now I understand they want to have live music 4 nights a week.

I wish LIC Bar had been more responsible to the neighborhood this weekend. I am a regular there and love the place but loud (and crappy) music was blasting near midnight. Drunks were vomiting on the sidewalks. I’m not a prude but it was all pretty disgusting. Can’t people enjoy themselves without it becoming a gross frat party?

@ #12. You cannot serve alcohol before 12 on a Sunday. The law has not changed.
I found this out as I was only given the option of a virgin Bloody Mary this morning at L47 with my brunch. I felt a little short changed on the price of my meal as it was supposed to include one. Next year, I’ll bring my folding chair and my own ‘Sunday pick me up’.

Just to be consistent on the entire neighborhood-watch vibe, please enjoy the marathon responsibly. Drinking alcohol, despite it being “discreet” is still illegal as is any establishment serving alcohol before noon. Should any business see fit to do so, they are breaking the law, and should anybody feel the need to drink at 10am, please seek professional help. Best of luck to the runners.
