These kind of joint events should happen more often because it helps increase traffic to the Green Market. Is this just a one weekend deal or will it happen again?

I thought it was great to have other vendors at the Greenmarket. I’m not sure why they don’t have local businesses (non-food) there with their products.

I thought this market was great. But I have to tell you, I’m getting a bit turned off by the holier than thou culture of Green Fascism, and this is coming from someone who buys plenty of organic stuff and is careful about not being a consuming slob. I sometimes feel I am being hounded by others who somehow want to claim to be better, more moral people with “smaller carbon footprints” than me. I can’t take this barrage of sustainable, saving the planet, low emissions, eco-this, that and the other, recycled plastic, locally grown hemp, reused rubber tire babble. Like I said, I support the overall goals of the Movement (I promise!), I just don’t want the militancy thrust in my face.

#4 were the vendors pretty militant this weekend?

5, it’s 4 here. No, that’s not what I meant at all. I’m just making a broader point (and disagree away if you want) about this onslaught of pressure by everyone (including corporate advertisers, mainstream media, hockey moms, that annoying smug guy in the office, etc.) to Be Green. For many people, it’s just a new form of political correctness.

#6 you might have a point but its better than the “Drill Baby Drill” crowd that seems to think that the best way for the US to get rid of its dependency on oil is to drill a little more. That is like telling a drug addict to take a little more crack to ease the pain of withdrawal.

#6 - I quite agree with you on many levels. Perching windmills on top our bridges and buildings is ludicrous, but doing our part as consumers is not. Plastic bags create a real dilemma for me! I depend on them for disposal of garbage and always recycle them into garbage bags. Disposing of garbage in paper bags can be quite messy indeed; however, I do understand the impact plastic bags have on the environment when mounds of them are carelessly tossed away. I always recycle newspaper and cardboard, because they are turned into useful products, and I feel by doing my small part in this effort I am helping to preserve forests. I believe green roofs can be helpful just about anywhere, but we are also learning that windmills and solar panels do not work everywhere.
I am definitely a locavore. but that comes from having grown up in the country with local produce available from early spring to late fall. I also know that in the dead of winter when I want fresh fruits and vegetables they have to be shipped in from other parts of the country. Actually that goes for citrus fruits on a year round basis.
I admire the artistry of crafters who turn materials into both useful and decorative products from things that would be otherwise tossed away.
But I also want to shout from the roof tops “papa don’t preach to me”.
