I think we need a wine store in LIC. Haha

We do need a shipping store- that would be good. And a bakery- although Sweetleaf has delicious cupcakes. And great coffee!!

We need at least three more hookah lounges for toddlers and moms.

It’s strange , but in the entire time I’ve been reading posts here and on QW.com, I have never heard a single person say they wanted a wine shop in LIC, and yet we have three of them. Most people seem to be clamoring for more practical shops, like hardware sellers, bakers, butchers. So why aren’t these places opening up?

While I’m here, do most people feel that the eternal wish for a grocery store has been met by Food Cellar?

The bakery in Food Cellar sucks although their bread is ok. Their cheese selection is fantastic.

I’ve found that FC and DR cover pretty much everything I need- except I’d like better meat options and pastry options. They have started stocking smaller selections of meat, which has been great. It seems as though they are responding to customer requests.

I like the bakery in FC (try the ciabatta and the carrot cake) but a real bakery, meaning less expensive and greater selection, is my number one choice here.

A real bakery with everything made on premise a la the one I used to have on 3rd Ave. near Gramercy would be wonderful! Alas! – They are few and far between these days. Ah – to walk into a shop and have that delicious bakery aroma greet you. Only way I get it these days is to get in the mood to do a little home baking. That urge usually hits me when autumn is in the air – which is right around the corner! A loaf of bread and an apple crisp coming right up soooon!

Actually, it’s five wine & liquor shops, not three.

Charlie.

Agree – FC and DR cover pretty much everything I need. Anything else is out of the ordinary request which I don’t mind leaving LIC for (until we get our own).

Had dinner with spouse at SHI last night – and it was really quite good. The sushi was really nice quality and very fresh(scallop, uni, botan ebi, and white tuna were excellent), and the beef and basil dish was surprisingly tasty with lots of fresh veggies and not too much sauce (I don’t like it when some restaurants pour on too much gloopy brown sauce.) The wait staff still need time to sort themselves out though….twice they almost came around to deliver dishes that weren’t for us, but at least they realized their mistake quickly and found the right tables. The cold sesame noodle was less exciting. Some folks may like it, but it was a bit too thick with the peanut butter for me. Prices were really very reasonable, and we left very full and happy. I just hope the DJ moderates the thumpy music for dinner before turning it up for the late night drinking crowd. There were several families with young children having dinner alongside tables with adults only. We would recommend the restaurant and plan to return ourselves.

We went there this weekend for dinner and we were impressed with the food, decor, and service. One of the owners was there and he greeted all the customers as they came in, and once they left. The sushi specialty roll called the Gantry was pretty good and fresh. We especially liked the Lychee Calamari appetizer. Overall, it was a good experience and we’ll be going back. It’s a nice addition to the neighborhood, and a big plus that it’s open till late.
