Long Island City faces at Art-O-Mat; Italian classics get funky tonight

Last minute happenings in Long Island City tonight:

1) Art-O-Mat is hosting an opening party tonight from 6-9pm for the exhibition “Faces of a Village: Photographs of a Universal Principle” featuring photographs of faces from Long Island City captured by Jackie Weisberg and Alexander Richter. There will also be a special presentation at 7pm tonight for LIC’s very own centurian, Rose Fazio, who celebrated her 100th birthday this Valentine’s Day. 46-46 Vernon Blvd (NW corner 47th Ave), LIC

2) Manducatis Rustica has some live music tonight from 7:30 – 10pm in the form of Groovefellas, a jazz/funk band recreating classic old Italian songs. 46-33 Vernon Blvd, LIC, 718.937.1312

Friday and in to the weekend:

3) LICPOP, the blog covering nightlife in Long Island City is back to organizing and promoting live music in the hood, starting with Friday and Sat nights at The Jackson (aka Jackson Ave Steakhouse).

4) Bar Domaine (befriend them on Facebook) also has live music on Friday night from 9p-12a, Long Island City favorites the Steve Blanco Trio who just released a new album entitled Piano Warrior. 50-04 Vernon Blvd, btwn 50th & 51st St

5) LIC Bar hosting its usual Sunday Social live music event from 5-8pm, and Monday Music Showcase Review from 8pm-onward. Usually local music, and free catered dinner served on Monday starting at 8:30pm. 45-58 Vernon Blvd, at NW corner of 46th Ave

6) The Creek has a bunch of weekend events including theater, improv and comedy performances. 10-93 Jackson Ave, @ 11th St, LIC

The Art-O-Mat opening was a blast. Great photos, great music, and the video interview with Rose Fazio was a high point.

It was a nice mix of newcomers and old-timers. See, we all can get along (at least until the next development project comes along).
