City Ice Pavilion, the five boroughs’ only rooftop ice skating rink, held a press conference for the grand opening of its first full season last night in Long Island City. The rink, located just two blocks off the 33rd St-Rawson St stop on the 7 line (which is just one stop towards Flushing-Main St after Queensboro Plaza), offers public skating, ice hockey, figure skating, skating lessons, skating parties, and even a summer camp.
Providing some sports celebrity candy, figure skater and Olympic gold medalist Oksana Baiul gave a crowd pleasing performance on City Ice Pavilion’s NHL-sized rink. And NY Ranger Michael Del Zotto taught a private ice hockey clinic to a group of zealous little ‘future Rangers’ later in the night.

The rink is remarkably easy to get to, and the experience of skating on a rooftop under a huge, tennis bubble-like air dome is certainly unique. This weekend, you can try out the rink for FREE as City Ice Pavilion is continuing its grand opening celebration on Saturday, November 21st and Sunday, November 22nd with free skating and skate rentals to the public as well as a special performance by the Ice Theater of New York on Saturday at 2:30pm, a DJ, special fall refreshments, and more. All events are FREE and open to the public. 47-32 32nd Place, LIC, 718.505.6230
