Vintage cartoon festival brings back the good ol’ days, and Froot Loops.

Well, for those who worry that Long Island City is being invaded by ‘narcissistic enemies of culture’ (thank you liQcity commenter for that), you have this Saturday morning to revel in some good ol’ fashioned Gen X pop culture. Some wacky LIC residents have planned a four hour film festival of vintage cartoons from 1980-1992 “Saturday Morning Cartoon Madness”, along with some classic sugary breakfast cereals and treats provided by Sweetleaf at The Creek from 10am – 2pm. If that’s not enough to simultaneously shock and numb your system (in the best possible way of course), alcoholic beverages will also be served.
$5 gets you four hours of Reagan/Bush Senior era cartoons, a sugary breakfast, & drinks. Apparently this has happened before, and this Saturday’s theme is Animals vs Robots. Oh, and there will be some “surprises”.
Saturday, April 4th, 10a-2pm @ The Creek, 10-93 Jackson Ave

It is pretty apparent that I am now officially an old bastard. Vintage is now 1992? I was expecting a showing of Heckyl and Jeckyll or Batfink cartoons. Sounds like fun nonetheless.
Can you bring kids to this?
@Anonymous #2 You’re not an old bastard! We’ll show some of the truly vintage cartoons at our next event, but in the meantime, come enjoy what us lame whippersnappers grew up watching.
@Anonymous #3 Kids are welcome.

This does look fun. Thanks! I like what’s been happening at the Creek in general. Great stuff. Keep it coming.
….Love it!!!!!!……great idea! will def. try to make it……are there any flyers going around to invite others…?
I’m there! P.S. I love Sweetleaf, you guys rock!
Yes, Yes!! Saturday morning cartooons. So there. Ditto on Sweetleaf. Love everything about that place and the people.
Very creative event. I will try to make it. And I three on Sweetleaf. They are very sweet indeed.
Give us a hint to the kind of alcoholic beverages that will be featured that early in the morning!
Three hints. Tang. Vodka. Together at last.
dutch kills where are you??? i need a drink…..
In my world (and I would guess for a lot of people), Bloody Marys and Mimosas are “morning” drinks. If they have cupcakes from Magnolia Bakery, I suppose a Cosmo would quench “morning” thirst.
How was this event? Good turn-out?
The event went really well — had about 65 folks turn out (about 75% of which were in pajamas). No cavities or sugar comas to report as of yet.
We’ll be doing a series of events later in the summer and fall; if you want to learn more, I’ve set up a Facebook group for updates: http://www.facebook.com/home.php#/group.php?gid=132574130303&ref=ts

I will only go if they serve Kashi and show only underground Austrian art animation.
