What do you call the sweet spot between Astoria & LIC?

Ok kids. It’s been a great first couple weeks of blogging. Thanks for the great response… I feel so warm and fuzzy.

The border between Astoria and Long Island City

I received an email or a comment from a resident of the gray matter between LIC and Astoria… which technically I think it’s Dutch Kills right up until it becomes Astoria. But if ever there was a no-man’s-land so greatly named, this is the one: ASLIC. The commenter referred to it as ASTLIC, but we at liQcity are not afraid of ASLIC.

Have you ever been to ASLIC? Trust me, the name fits. At least until the hotels arrive…

ASLIC sounds wack. how bout eQB (east of queensbridge) or NoQ or NoQP (north of queensboro plaza) or DuK (dutch kills)

AS(s)LIC(k) is supposed to sound wack. It's an area so down under the radar that nothing is happening. Plus their are an appropriate number of discount stores in the area to match the number of bad restaurants.

If you tell someone you live in Dutch Kills they will assume you live way far out in Queens. Since most everyone knows nothing about Queens except for Astoria and Long Island City at least you are giving them an accurate mental description of where it might be.

Some of it is Dutch Kills, some Ravenswood... maybe Queensbridge is a separate place too.

Astoria was part of Long Island City, too... for some reason it gets to be its own thing now, for whatever reason.

Check out the new book Neighborhoods of Queens that has good nabe boundary maps.

Also, Dutch Kills and Ravenswood are part of LIC (sub-nabes). As is Hunters Point. Court Square area is a part of Hunters Point and I believe Queens Plaza is as well. Sunnyside was once part of Long Island City and also somehow gets to be its own deal now. It's all too ridiculous.

And don't forget about Blissville!
