What were they filming?

“Law & Order.”

Wasn’t law and order, it’s a new series which I can’t remember the name off because they annoyed me while filming. Greed? Gambling? Something with a G? Having a memory loss here. Good to here from ya however Townie.

That’s right. Law & Order was a week earlier. No less annoying to neighbors. Lights! Camera! No parking!

QUESTION: Is it really legal for the NYPD to relocate your legally parked car for a film shoot? That’s horrible. I thought my car was stolen and it took the 108th precinct two cops and 45 min to figure out that they had towed me themselves to another spot so something like ugly betty could film there.

They post signs ahead of time and consider this sufficient warning to change the designation of your parking spot to temporarily illegal, allowing them to move your car. Out of consideration, they only tow you a block or two, as far as I know. The up side is that it removes abandoned vehicles as well as cars that Manhattanites like to warehouse over here, and probably helps to discourage the habit. No comment on the cultural validity, but I used to like Rescue Me.

Townie, what do you do for a living?

Yes they are allowed to tow your car. But not if the signs have been up for less than 48 hours.

And often times they do not post the signs by the legally required 48 hours notice. Occasionally it’s less than 24 and you need to contact the film commission about that, but they will give you a hard time. Hopefully you weren’t in the dark to long #5.
