Onorato showed just how cowardly he is with this vote. Has this man ever even visited Hunters Point and explained what he has done in his long tenure as a state senator? He’s a total waste of space.

I have sent him an email protesting and I think everyone that disagrees with him should do the same.

The funny thing is tthat I have never heard of him until yesterday. However, I will now remember his name next time I am in the voting booth.

That’s strange, I always thought Onorato was gay himself. I’ve lived in Astoria for most of my life (30 years) and this man has been around since I was in junior high. He’s never done anything meaningful other than kiss Peter Vallone’s ugly rear end. Alas, the reason Astoria will always be mediocre.

4, I think Manducatis Rustica should host a town hall meeting for Onorato. I’m sure many people would like to hear his rationale for his vote. And perhaps he could use the occasion to explain just what the hell he’s been doing on the public dole for three decades.

Please! We are going to hold a meeting on his gay marraige vote??? Seems that there are doezen of question that should be rasied before that one which have a more direct impact on life in NY.

I disagree with 6. I’m straight btw for what it’s worth. There is a direct economic impact from the rights denied to any life partnership. Just the extra waste of time and expense needed to deal with health issues, adoption issues, life estate issues, etc. not only places an unfair burden on these partners but on society as a whole. Why the added misery and anxiety? What exactly is the difference between a straight couple – particularly a couple who will never bear children – and a gay or lesbian couple? Why can one obtain immediate rights and the other cannot? Anything that concerns the most basic rights to me is just as important as which direction a street goes.

I’m also a married straight guy and embarrassed that we’ve been so poorly represented Onorato for many years. Finally, with his stupid vote on gay marriage, I pray that the chickens are coming home to roost for him.

For me, the measure is simply about equality before the law. It’s just not appropriate, or constitutional, in my view, for government to withhold certain rights it gives to others. Some folks might be uncomfortable with the loaded word “marriage,” with all the religiosity it summons in our minds. Get over it. Gay people shouldn’t have to suffer discrimination in our legal codes just because someone feel discomfort using the word “married” for these couples, just as they felt discomfort in the recent past when blacks and whites were finally allowed to marry.

Enough with the nonsense and divisiveness: give gays the right to marry and let’s move on. It’s already legal in other states and there’s no compelling reason to outlaw it in NY.

#7, tell that to the millions of unemployed people wondering how to pay next months rent. I’m sure they might have a different idea of where our priorities should be. Not saying gay rights aren’t important, just saying that it not as important as some of the issue affect society as a whole – not just some narrow sliver of the population.

Guess what 9, a large portion of those unemployed are gay and lesbian and wondering how to pay next month’s rent. Equality provides survivor benefits, health insurance benefits, survivor disability, etc., etc.

This is a simple issue that does not require a drop of State budget spent other than for the ink and paper. It requires no community meetings any more than the idea of allowing people of color to vote ever should have had a community meeting.

Another married straight guy in support of gay-lesbian rights.

I find it funny that everyone feels compelled to post their sexual preference in order to comment. Interesting commentary on society. (I’m straight by the way.)

11, it’s to show objectivity. I said I wasn’t gay (No. 8) because I don’t see equality before the law as a gay or straight issue. Perhaps if other straight people against gay marriage read these viewpoints, they may reconsider their opposition.

Perhaps No. 12. One might also say its also insecurity or fear of being identified as gay.
