LIC, on a TV screen near you; Sweatshops and Arts go down.

Deitch Studios, Hunters Point waterfront, Long Island City
LIC continues to manifest in commercial media, this time serving as the backdrop for a Rhapsody MP3 player commercial. Not to mention Ugly Betty, which is getting a lot of attention since Miz Lohan has been gracing us with her uh, presence. Though LIC, as we all know, has made many cameo appearances on screen including Munich, The Darjeeling Limited, Third Watch, Gossip Girl, and Grand Theft Auto.
In other news, an underground sweatshop was discovered this week in LIC, having served the likes of Macy’s, Banana Republic and Victoria’s Secret. Wonder what else is lurking quietly beneath LIC’s industrial facades…
And last, but certainly not least, the QCA has some interesting commentary on the recent cutbacks in funding for Queens arts programs. Cutting back on arts? Shocking.

Hunters Point has been more than a cameo or bit part player in episodes of Law &Order - particularly last fall’s CI episode shot on 49th Ave., in John Andrews Playground, Riverview Restaurant and Water Taxi Beach.
Also - in the past a major player in “Third Watch” - including a “wedding” staged at St. Marys Church plus many location shots around town over a span of a several years. Their firehouse was the Badge Bldng.
Actually, the “Third Watch” firehouse was the real firehouse, Engine 258/Ladder 115 on 47th Avenue. The fictional 55th Precinct on the show was set in what is now the Badge Building, across the street (they filmed exteriors only there).
Series star Molly Price’s husband is an FDNY smoke-eater who transferred to that house during the show’s run, and was seen occasionally in background shots filmed there.
Ooops #3 - You are right!!
Also within recent memory there was a full day of shooting on 50th Ave for a Dennis Quaid feature film. They transformed the precinct and subway entrances to look like they did in the 1950’s along with PJ’s (which at that time was Ryans), had the block full of vintage cars and did takes all day for a scene in the movie that went by in the blink of an eye.
And that reminds me Denis Leary and the cast of “Rescue Me” have filmed on Vernon a lot - including one last year with Denis in front of and inside of PJ’s. Lucky patrons who were already inside were given extra’s pay to sit there and continue imbibing!
There are also several scenes in 30 Rock filmed along 11th St.

I saw lindsay lohan on 44th drive!
