The Daily News article on the loss of local art venues shows how totally out of it the Queens Council on the Arts leadership is. There has been zero outreach by QCA to even try to help sustain vital grass roots efforts.

Good to see Little Closets get some publicity. It’s been a nice addition to the neighborhood.

Yes, it’s a great place…just wish they had nicer signage.

#1, what would you have QCA do. I don’t think anyone can control rising rents or conversions of buildings from industrial to residential uses.

I think #1 meant more like they could do something to help find more artist space. LIC is not all residential yet, not for at least 2/3 decades will we lose all the industrial space. So in the meantime, I agree a more aggressive effort to preserve the arts community in LIC is needed.

Queens Coucil on the Arts has had many great people working for it who eventually are at odds with the leadership and either leave or get pushed out. The leadership does not focus on grassroots organizations other than the annual required pass along of state funding. Instead the sights are set on hobnobbing with the established institutions or being in the in crowd.

A true arts advocacy organization could certainly do plenty to work with the community of artists and the many land owners interested in helping to preserve the arts. Simple question. Where are they? Why don’t we see them at the forefront advocating for living/working artists?
