Long Island City condo firesale continues; Vernon Blvd recovering

Vernon/Jackson development in progress, LIC

Condo building at Vernon/Jackson continues to rise, Long Island City

In Long Island City real estate news, the buyer incentives being offered by various local condo developments are getting more press. With video. On the flip side, buyers in contract already at some of the local developments are, um, not happy.

Remember the 7-train weekend service suspension? Apparently there were a few good reasons for it, according to the MTA.

Oh right, and in case you hadn’t noticed, Vernon Blvd retail is having a bit of a hard time right now. Although, some new stuff is still managing to pop up on the Boulevard, so all hope is not lost.

speaking of backing out of contracts – does anyone know how many people took advantage of that option with crescent club?

Long Island City is so done. No fire sale pricings are going to lure buyers into a losing investent.

That 7 train article is great. Nice to know that the 7 train weekend service outage will be ongoing with periodic closures in LIC for the rest of time.

If you haven’t figured out how to walk over to the E train at 23rd Street/Ely, then now would be a good time.

2, good. Now maybe all you whiny, greedy newcomers will leave and let us long-termers get working rebuilding our community once again. By the way, thanks for the waterfront park.

#3, yeah. The article basically says the No. 7 and its tracks are ancient, rickety, crowded relics. Don’t expect them to be modernized or expanded. Just accept whatever service we get and don’t look for more. It amazes me that MTA even bothered to trot out this message. Talk about aiming low.

It’s sometimes so hard for me to believe that this is the same city that soared and innovated in the 19th century, leading the rest of the world’s cities with our can-do, optimistic outlook. We’ve become a lazy, uninspired bunch of do-nothings, and no agency exemplifies that more than the MTA.

The NIMBY’s doomed this city, not the MTA.

#5 huh?

With what funding? Let’s increase taxes or better yet direct federal highway funds all to transit. The MTA’s main problems lie far outside their organization.

7, I was making a bigger point. Yes, sure, there’s a funding problem. I’m just saying that the MTA typifies the kind of glacial, technocratic, small-thinking that is rife in this city. We seem incapable of thinking big anymore, of having grand ideas that we execute. All we’re good at is coming up with excuses. And this attitude pre-dates the recession. Look at the WTC site. Billions spent, and we still have a hole in the ground almost a decade after 9/11.

Lots of things were possible back when there weren’t people to displace, we didn’t know as much about the effect on the environment we were causing, we didn’t care about pollutants, and standards of living (and labor costs) were dirt cheap.

Maybe you can pine for the days when child labor was plentiful and 16 hour workdays were the norm, when a lot of the great works of this city were built, but it’s hard for me to wax so nostalgic about it.

Having said that, the MTA does still suck.

#8 is right, however this is not a NYC problem its a problem with America. We have run out of ideas or the will the implement them. America is in decline as a result. #9 doesn’t know what he/she is talking about.

Yeah, it’s bad, but it’s not all bad. Get this–I’d shop there anyway, but right now at Hunters Point Wines and Liquors one may receive free candy, courtesy of something called HuntersPointCondos.com. I got several “extra” pieces, too–more than my share, I’m sort of ashamed to admit, but what’s a little pillage now and then, right? Anyway, I can no longer contend that I have not benefited directly from all this “development.” So thanks to all you generous Condo-folks, and I hope the candy thing works out for you.
Should I say anything about the free post card? Hmm…

I went to 5SLs fire sale that weekend in Feb. They came down at least 100,000 on most of the prices- but its still out of our price range. There was 1 other couple with us looking at what they had left. After an hour the agent said he had to get back to the sales office to deal with the mob of people who came for the sale.

Back at the sales office… [crickets]

By the way the deal was a new TV or new floors or buy down the mortgage 1% for the term of the mortgage. Who the hell takes the TV?!?

I’m sorry that the city and country doesn’t posses the visionary capability to undertake the grand idea of making your morning commute a bit easier.

Me too. Have a piece of candy.
