What is the “urban beach” on the map? Is that tiny little patch actually going to be open to sunbathers? Or is that the spot reserved for Water Taxi Beach?

Gantry Park and all this waterfront is going to be great. Now let’s hope it doesn’t take 40 years to see if fulfilled.

HAHA its going to be close to a MILE to get to a subway at the far end…..unless they plan on shuttle buses every 15 minutes 24/7

I guess the jeeniuses are planning on every middle class person paying for a ferry ride to Manhattan. and where do you park a car for any of your out of town guests…

Just wall it off and build section 8 projects…oops the upper crust in Avalon dont want them people walking back home at 2 am.

There’s no parking over there? You mean to tell me they are building 7+ highrises and ZERO parking garages?

#4 Anonymous / 8 months, 2 weeks ago

I’ll bet It will be like Kennedy airport one big huge garage charging $30 a day, or $500+ a month

Middle class my azz

#5 Anonymous / 8 months, 2 weeks ago

i’m pretty sure, if you look at the plans, there are parking garages too…just the way there are garages under all of your fancy condos…geez people!

There is parking. There is a bus route. There is an intermediate and high school. The beach will be for sun bathing and there will be the water taxi. There will be nature areas, bike path, a kayak launch. The streets are to be mated with the surrounding neighborhood in a more inviting way.

Biggest problem IMO will be the density of the buildings which the City says it needs for revenue to make the project possible. Also I fear the commercial space – even though small parcels – will be out of reach for the average small business.

FYI, I’m not a big promoter of large scale development but I don’t see the park as something to complain about.

Also, it will not “be close to a MILE” to the subway. At most a 7 or 8 block walk; similar to the walk from other parts of LIC. Looks like it could be a nice place to live.

#8 Anonymous / 8 months, 2 weeks ago

Who’s complaining about the park? If anything, they should expand parkland on the site. Still, considering how little parkland there is in most areas of the city, we shouldn’t grumble too much.

#9 Anonymous / 8 months, 2 weeks ago

GO walk it yourself its like 12-14 blocks they are long double blocks

and will the buses run at 2-3-4 am on a friday saturday night coming back from a night out in manhattan??????

or will they stop at 1030 like the q67 does……and you have that long long walk home half drunk just begging to get mugged

Serious questions i would ask before i would build let alone put even a dime down on a future rental or purchase.

#10 Anonymous / 8 months, 2 weeks ago

#10, no one is asking you to put a dime down. If you are not interested fine just save your vitrol. As for the rest of us will will be in the park enjoying life. You sound like the same type who before Queens West was built said “who would want to live there?” Time will tell who is right.

#11 Anonymous / 8 months, 2 weeks ago

#10, I go out all the time, just begging to be mugged, but then I remember how safe it is in this part of LIC and I get home VERY disappointed.

#12 Anonymous / 8 months, 2 weeks ago

#10 is a very bitter, lonely person.

They’ve been dooming western Queens for so long, they’ve forgotten why they’re against development of the area.

May they find peace at some point in their miserable lives.

Our car was broken into last night. And it seems to coincide with a rash of break in’s on 46th rd between Vernon and 5th. Should be on the surveillance tape of the new building next to me….I just don’t know if the police with bother to request the tapes. Lets hope they do. Crime is on the rise in these hard economic times.

#14 Anonymous / 8 months, 1 week ago

Why don’t you read the 108 compstats before claiming that crime is up?

http://www.nyc.gov/html/nypd/downloads/pdf/crime_statistics/cs108pct.pdf

It’s scary to see that rape is actually up 350% year over year in LIC. That’s a pretty awful increase. But Grand Larceny Auto is actually down 12% compared to last year, and burglary is down as well.

#15 Anonymous / 8 months, 1 week ago

The 108 covers a broader area than just LIC- so the rapes aren’t necessarily in Hunters Point.

#16 Anonymous / 8 months, 1 week ago

I think we can confidently say that rape and other violent crimes are not a problem at all in Hunters Point, compared with other parts of Queens and NYC as a whole.

#17 Anonymous / 8 months, 1 week ago

About six weeks ago, my car was stolen from 47th Road, between 11th and Vernon.

Just sayin’!

#18 NYC Native / 8 months, 1 week ago

#15, what is your agenda? Every category of crime YTD is down according to your link. Rape is only up 350% because there are only 2 of them last year. Of course this should be monitored closly, and one event is one too many, but let’s not paint a picture of a crime wave washing over LIC. It just not true.

#19 Anonymous / 8 months, 1 week ago

Sorry that was supposed to be for number 10.

#20 Anonymous / 8 months, 1 week ago

Rape is actually up citywide. I’ve watched compstats for other precincts and noticed that year over year they’ve seen increases in rape over the past two years as well. The 114 precinct above the Queensboro Bridge including Astoria has seen rape increase 75% from 8 to 14, for example. The 112 precinct in Forest Hills has seen a 300% increase from 1 to 4 year over year.

It’s uncertain whether that’s due to increased reporting of sex crimes, or increased incidence, but it’s an alarming trend citywide despite every other category of crime decreasing.

Crime in LIC is actually pretty good, compared to other parts of the city. There’s certainly no reason to stoke irrational fears…

#21 Anonymous / 8 months, 1 week ago

No no need…to stoke fires, and remember not every break in on 46th rd was reported cause folks might have just fixed the window if they didn’t have insurance and didn’t need the police report for claims. So statistically these break in’s may not be reflected accurately. Just be aware some crap is happening out there. The only reason I reported it was because it’s happening frequently and if the cops don’t have the complaints…it will turn into a random statistic.

I certainly don’t think this has to do with bars, but I don think it has to do with we look more affluent here, as well as the trickle down unemployment. And the perps know what a stretched precinct we have. They’ve also got away with it about 20 times already, if the cops follow through with the surveillance tape….we will probably have the break in’s ….nicked in the bud.

Break in’s LIC 2 years ago were a consistent thing for a while in buildings with vestibules. While figures on a stat sheet don’t seem high, when you talk to friends who have been violated….it makes it much more that a stat.

And the rape at the G was just horrifying. And the stabbing last year on Vernon as well. And the dead body at the waterfront. It’s just a reminder to be more cognizant and report even the little stuff. That’s all.

#22 Anonymous / 8 months, 1 week ago

And the murder on 23rd Street.

#23 Anonymous / 8 months, 1 week ago

#15 according to the link you provided Grand Larceny is up 10.2% in the past two years.
