I’m kinda excited about the Goodwill, actually. I bet it won’t be too picked over…
I am confused.
I just looked up the Goodwill shop location and it’s in Sunnyside, not LIC. I’ve noticed this happens a lot. Is this false advertisement b/c LIC sounds better or am I missing something?
Same with the Indonesian Food Bazaar-that’s somewhere out between Astoria & Woodside.
Van Dam street is the border between LIC and Sunnyside, by most accounts. Or some say LIC even goes a few blocks further eastward. In any case Sunnyside was historically part of LIC (like Astoria), so probably uses an LIC postal address (not sure on this; anyone live in Sunnyside and know if it has its own postal address?)
“LIC Restaurant in Crossfire of Gentrification”

Gee, I wonder which restaurant that’s gonna be…
:-(
The article quotes Conley as saying, “We were told by the previous owners that they would agree to do a number of things, and they have not lived up to that agreement.” What things is he talking about?
Why don’t they just close the back garden and keep the bar indoors?
#11, because they are still getting complaints when the outdoor garden is closed.
12, not so. While there have been sporadic complaints about people congregating in front smoking and chattering – something common to all bars in residential areas – the vast majority of complaints have to do with noise from the garden.
“We’re open to any suggestions,” said Seamus McEntire, the current owner of Lounge 47. “We want to get on with the neighbors.” But he said the neighbors aren’t willing to compromise. “My ex-partners went to the Garretts and said, ‘What can we do?’ and William and Beth [Garrett] said, ‘Nothing; you can move out.’”
grumpies
14, and in the same breath Seamus said he had no idea what was going on as he was just a silent partner. Seems contradictory and as an owner irresponsible.
16, not surprised. When confronted with that statement you redirect the attack elsewhere, because there is nothing you can say to rebutt it. The only thing that will make them happy is the closing of this resturant.
17, What attack? 14 took Seamus’ statement to be fact. Why assume his version is what actually happened? I’m pointing out that his statement makes no sense if he is also claiming to just be learning that there’s a problem and that he did not know anything all these years as a “silent partner”. Anyone who really knows the story knows that’s not the case.
The attack where you called him irresponsible. Do you know what a silent partner is? Just because you own a business does not mean that you are involved in every single aspect of its operations. It also does not mean that you have no knowledge. Quit being extreme. If #16, position is correct answer this: If the outdoor garden is closed, will the neighbors drop their opposition to the licience?
