Long Island City Wednesday linkage; death to the LIC lapdance?

LIC’s strip clubs on the City’s chopping block – Queens Plaza, LIC

“A Queens jiggle joint contends it’s being squeezed out of its Long Island City location by the city as part of a bigger push to scrub New York of its adult entertainment hotspots. “This would absolutely shutter them,” said Joan Toro, a lawyer for Scandals. “If people want to get lap dances, they should be able to get lap dances.” The suit by the topless club near the Queensboro Bridge accuses the city of making zoning changes that are shrinking the 21 districts where strip clubs can operate.”

Good riddance. I look forward to the day when that whole area is cleaned up. I give it about 5-10 years to see a real change. But this is a start.

What LIC condo was that case about? The lovely Crescent Club, perchance? The article didn’t say unless I missed it completely.

It pays to do a little research #2. Borden East River Realty LLC is the sponsor for One Hunters Point.

I love answering myself and chastising myself at the same time. :-)

Don’t forget The Health dept is moving into 11 floors of the new 21 floor building a block away

You don’t want to all those guvmint workers getting lap dances on their lunch hour.

i thought the health dept was occup that build 100%?? are they only taking 11 flrs?

I think they’re starting with 11 floors, but plan on occupying most of the building eventually as the other office leases of where the DoH employees expire, they’ll move them to the LIC tower.

The Department of Health will be occupying the entire building. They are consolidating offices that are spread out, into a central building. My office will be moving there, which means I will be able to walk to work.

IMO The City should be doing this across all agencies. Why should they be in class A buildings in Manhattan at considerable cost to taxpayers spread out over multiple buildings, when they could be in the Queens or Brooklyn at a fraction of the costs while also promoting economic development at the same time.

Hopefully there are more deals like this to come.

FYI #9, many of the offices are not in “class A” bulidings. I know my office certainly isn’t. Actually, this new building will be a step up for many.

Which exactly is the new building the Health Dept will be moving into?

The new glass building being built where the municipal parking garage used to be on the corner of Jackson and Queens Blvd.
