The strip club was there first. Damn condo people trying to control everything. Don’t buy property next to a pre-existing strip club if you don’t want to live near one. It’s Queens Plaza for F’s sake. That’s where strip clubs should be. Not luxury high-rise condos.

i live in view59 and dont know anyone who has ever even complained about scandals…just a good joke or two ever-so-often…

all articles clearly state that the community board is trying to change regulations. Everyone is just assuming that the new condo owners are pushing it. I think that it more than likely has to do with the overall plans to revitalize Queens Plaza … see the other article above.

Everyone knows that Cityscapes IS the place to go across the street.

So let me get this straight: A hideous strip club, according to No. 1, somehow should enjoy immunity from redevelopment pressures because they “were there first.” Yet, I’ll guarantee No. 1 and many others who agree with his statement have no problem telling long-term residents people on Vernon Blvd. to just move if they complain about excessive noise from outdoor bars or from other changes brought on by redevelopment.

One more entry in the hypocritical file: I’m curious how many sleepless residents in Citylights and Avalon who belittled efforts by those who complained about LIRR train noise on Borden Ave. are now up in arms over the MTA subway vent noise.

#6 Anonymous / 2 years, 7 months ago

#6 why are you so certain that Citylight residents belittled your complains about WTB crowds. Do you have any evidence of that?

#7 – The #6 allegations re: “belittling” were directed to the 1 Hunters Point residents complaining about the LIRR engines idling across from their apts. – not WTB. In the case of the MTA and the exhaust fan, our community appeal went out to only those who are affected by the noise. I have been a city dweller since the 1960′s and am accustomed to the usual noises of the city; however, I have never before been subjected to the non stopping shrill ear piercing sound that starts at 1:30am and lasts until 4:am that emanates from the exhaust fan used in the shed that leads into their tunnel on 50th Ave. We did not issue a petition regarding the problem – instead we appealed to our Councilman and the media and got results. At this point, we don’t know whether the problem is completely resolved. The work is scheduled to continue until mid August and they alternate between the Manhattan and Queens ends of the tunnel. I can assure you that the descriptions of the sound as mentioned in the NYD article are quite accurate.

#3 I would concur with you.

They will go to the BSA, folks will show up and argue for 5 meetings and ? Probably push them out. I don’t know why they don’t take the 60/40 and be content. Will save them the cost of relocating. I just wish the city would legalize, sanitize and give prostitution it’s clearly specified area in the city. Ha, not in my lifetime.

#10 Anonymous / 2 years, 7 months ago

May not be this year or the next, but ultimately the club will go. It is not consistent with what the city is trying to do with that area and like times square they will make life difficult for them until they move elsewhere. Can’t say I’d shed a tear for them. The talent at the clubs across the river is much better.

Talent? Did you really say talent??

9 – what “results” have you gotten? Why would you belittle others who are talking to the MTA, our city councilman and trying to raise support through a petition to do something about the idling trains on Borden? Your comment is just inane.

#13 13 / 2 years, 7 months ago

#13 – you are the one whose comment is inane. I was not belittling the people who have an issue with the Deisel engines. Their battle is with the LIRR – not the MTA. I simply know that they published a petition on the Queens West site asking any and all to join their fight. They have a very tough battle on their hands and I wish them luck.
I was pointing out that in our battle which involves only those people bordering on the MTA shed and its exhaust fan, we appealed to the City Council and the medea for help with the problem. We were not asking the MTA to discontinue their track work, only to try to alleviate the screeching fan noise.
You totally misread my statement. Please re-read when you are either awake or sober – whichever comes first. Thank you.

#14 anonymous / 2 years, 7 months ago

#14here – Even though MTA publicly owns LIRR, I believe they have to first take their petition to the LIRR when it comes to changing locations for their equipment. If I am wrong about that, I stand corrected.

#15 anonymous / 2 years, 7 months ago

You didn’t know that the LIRR is part of the MTA? Thanks for another incoherent post.

#16 16 / 2 years, 7 months ago

yes, #16 – I did know that the MTA publicly owns LIRR. That’s the reason I made the additional comment. Have another drink!

#17 anonymous / 2 years, 7 months ago

You made the second post because after 20 minutes you probably realized that the LIRR is part of the MTA (it is a government authority, not “publicly owns”) so you backpedaled to not look silly. Regardless, your point is inane. I don’t hear the noise that is waking people up from the fan, but if someone wanted to start a petition I would sign it because it affects my neighbors and I believe the MTA is wrong. What is the problem with someone asking LIC residents to sign a petition to get the MTA to do something about the train yard?

#18 18 / 2 years, 7 months ago

I never said that I had a problem with those people who want their pettion signed. And, I also mentioned that they have a much bigger battle ahead of them than we had in our situation with the exhaust fan. Yes, the term “publicly owned” is correct.

#19 anonymous / 2 years, 7 months ago

I don’t understand why people always cling to the “We were here first!” line- or the “It’s ALWAYS been done that way” argument. It’s a cop out that can be used to combat ANY change- even POSTIIVE changes! We used to have slavery, child labor, legal domestic violence, laws keeping gays from working at schools, no suffrage for women, etc etc etc. What would our world look life if everyone had said, “Well, it’s always been done like that”?

What’s so wrong with people not wanting to hear a fan at 4am, or not wanting trains (out-dated, filthy trains that Europe and Japan would scoff at) idling and polluting the whole neighborhood? I can’t understand siding with the MTA over your neighbors. It’s people who fear change, even when it’s for the greater good, that are toxic to our community’s progress.

Times are a’changing. LIC is going to have to learn to get along and fight TOGETHER against companies like the LIRR/MTA so that we ALL can enjoy an improved quality of life.
