Starbucks for no one in LIC; Powerhouses for everyone everywhere

The Echelon & Manhattan Skyline from Hunters Point, LIC
What? No Starbucks? According to the Racked article, there’s no reason cited for the deal dying, except speculation that Starbucks is limiting their ‘outer borough’ presence. Poor Queenswest. The little engine that couldn’t. Well, hopefully the Amish Market will come through someday. And the Duane Reade. In the meantime, QW’ers will just have to truck it all the way to Vernon for some local coffee, which is not half bad. In fact, some of it is darned good. We don’t even need or want a Starbucks - well not all of us. I know some were waiting for the chain, cigarettes and jitters in hand.

agreed-Starbucks can suck it
Hot tip: get the BCH Cafe au Lait from Brasil Coffee House on your commute… I’m spoiled. Once I’m around the office in Manhattan there’s nothing nearly as good. It’s uber-strong but not burnt-tasting and cut with a nice dose of lactose to keep it smooth.
Their coffee is decent actually, but I’ve had bad experiences with their service. Enough that I don’t go there anymore, except for when I’m having a craving for a corn and cheese empanada. That’s worth it.
What? Starbucks isn’t coming to LIC? There must be a god. Hallelujah! We have all been saved.
A little bird told me that EC might get an organic/ independent coffee shop. That might be cooler than a Starbucks.
yay! fuck starbucks. bring on the independents.
who cares about Starbucks? LIC needs a proper supermarket
yes, we know.
Which Brasil do you go to? The one on 23rd is understaffed when there’s a rush (one person working) but otherwise she’s way nice and knows my usual and starts making it before I even say anything.
C-Town 4eva. It says “supermarket” on the sign.
C-town 4eva. My favorite mantra. sing it Brandon! to the tune of Pink Floyd…”We don’t need no grocery store…”
Starbucks is so overrated. Their coffee is just a bunch of sugar and fake milk crap. Keep them out of LIC!
Yeah, we don’t need Starbucks. I’ve a pref for Communitea where you know you’re getting real tea or coffee - whatever mood you might be in on the day. Free wi-fi and great food and its like my home away from home.

Fantastic.
I was just in Sunnyside the other day and all the Starbucks/Wendy’s other chains on Queens Blvd there = not adding a lot of character to the place.
