Water Taxi and G-train kickin it up; Casa Vizcaya kickin it down

The changing landscape of Hunters Point, Long Island City

The changing landscape of Hunters Point, Long Island City

Well the end to a slow week brings not very much news about LIC, but a couple of commuting notes, and a report on pricechopping at the new development on 46th Rd known as Casa Vizcaya. What does that mean? Who knows. Every weekend I still see tons of brokers with their trench coats and clipboards…

It was nice to see some community chatter about development in the hood. WHAT DO WE WANT?! An Indie Theatre. A pool. A community center. WHEN DO WE WANT IT?! Uh, whenever…before 2020 would be nice.

Why? what a disgusting train.

Easy access to Brooklyn... living in this neighborhood would be far less attractive without it. Look at the hassle of getting from Astoria to Williamsburg, for example. That thing is a lifeline.

Great picture. Where did you get it?

Anyone know whats going to happen to that land being used as parking on 48th between Vernon and 11th. You can see it in the picture above. The 4 lane street on 48th was supposed to extend east, but I think they scrapped that idea. Who owns this and what are they planning to do with it? Its a decent sized parcel.

Good Bluegrass playing tonight at Dominie's if anyone cares. Stompin' and pickin' and drinkin'. STuff like that.

#4, the land is owned by the MTA - no immediate plans, I think that they did scrap the 4 lane road plan. It would be nice if they extended the park. Does anyone know what is happening with the parcel (under construction) where jackson intersects with 11th?

#6 I think it would be a better place to put something commercial esp. on the 11th Ave side. There will be plenty parks as Gantry State gets built out. Readarding the 4 lane it would be nice if they extend the grassy median that goes from 48th to center blvd out to Vernon.

What is the vacant lot on 11th in the picture above in the lower right?

http://a810-bisweb.nyc.gov/bisweb/JobsQueryByNumberServlet?requestid=2&passjobnumber=402233089&passdocnumber=01

seems to be a 7 floor, 7 unit residential building.

There are not many details but they seem to have one violation for:

"FAILURE TO PROVIDE ADEQUATE PROTECTION FOR SIDEWALKS & WALKWAYS DURING CONSTRUCTION OPERATIONS.UNSAFE CONDITIONS NOTED: NO CONSTRUCTION FENCE IN THE FRONT NEXT TO THE PUBLIC SIDEWALK & ALSO AT REAR OF JOBSITE."

This may stall it a bit.
