i for one, love blends food and a few of their staff members...
but the rest of their service completely sucks!
often times i've called to order something from their menu... and somehow they're out of stock, can't make it, or won't deliver it...
deciding perhaps a trip to the restaurant would make this better, i went this past weekend... i have never been treated with such disrespect as a paying customer...
the waiters are miserable... brought me coffee that i asked for 5 times as i was paying the bill... and complained when i said i no longer wanted it because i was leaving...
they really need to shape up because honestly, they've lost my business and a few others due to their nasty, inattentive attitude...

Who cares whether Citylights sucks or not? Isn't this supposed to be about Blend?

Blend sucks and should be called Bland. Alcohol will not help, unless of course you get so wasted before the meal that you don't notice it doesn't taste like anything.

Wow. It looks like Jake and his gang continue to make positive contributions to the neighborhood with post on this thread. Embarassing. Simply Embarrasing for LIC. Just as their comments were on the Starbucks thread.

73, right. I'll bet you know all about "passive aggressive feelings." Don't you have something better to do on a beautiful spring Sunday?

Blah blah. I'm a dirty hipster from the Midwest. I wear the same clothes as my non-washing breathen.

I blog about my passive aggressive feelings. But only if I can find free some free Wi-fi, b/c I'm in my 20's and have no money so I hate everyone that works for a living.

I wasted my Detroit upbringing watching Scarface and dreaming of living in NYC and tending to my Grandma and Grandpa while my mother and father did crystal meth.

Oh, and I have an advanced college degree which allows me to tell native NYC'ers how the city should be run...well, because I studied about big cities in college. Forget that in the 70's and 80's NYC was a shitty dump, which is how I want it to be...well, b/c that's how Scarface was.

And, well, I watched it and now I'm living the rust belt refugee dream of being dirty. And overeducated. And living underneath the #7 train like a troll.

your right, i can't afford to live in citylights. but i and a lot of new "constituents" will be able to live in hunter's point south. so i would say that your problem is that you grossly overpaid for your apartment in an inflated market.

I agree with 57. Which of LIC's constituents are Gioa and Connely representing by being driving forces behind Hunters Point South? I mean what other than driving prices of owners properties on the waterfront is it going to do for current residents of the neighborhood is it going to do?

The CB2 committee the other night was certainly older and whiter than the population I see getting off the 7 train at Vernon/Jackson, or on the streets of LIC. The age bias is not unexpected for a political body (check out the US Supreme Court and Senate!) given that it takes time and experience to become recognized as a public figure, and eligible for these positions. (I know, there are exceptions). But Liqcity asks an important question; how do we ensure that the governing bodies that ostensibly speak for us actually represent us, particularly when the community is changing rapidly? I have nothing but respect for those who volunteer their time and energy serving on CB, but without term limits and some mechanism for the community to influence the appointment process, these tensions seen inevitable.

#53 - I won't be happy at all. Why aholes like Gioa and Connoley are promoting Hunters Point South when it is only going to drive down the value of those who have invested in places like City Lights, the Powerhouse, etc. is beyond me. Who the hell are they representing. Obviously noone who has invested in the area.

#43, good question. Blend should quickly follow this up with an application for the full liquor licence.

I think what this proves that we need to take a more active role in our neighborhood. We have as much right to have our say in things as everyone else. If the neighborhood does not reflect our desires we have no one to blame but ourselves. Thank you LIQ for bring this matter to our attention and for providing a forum in which we can organize and discuss.

There still are a lot of Latino residents, and definitely some Filipinos and Koreans, not to mention Queensbridge, which is mostly African-American. If you get away from the Vernon-Jackson area you'll see that LIC is pretty diverse, even if it's no Jackson Heights.

Here's demographic info as of 2000:
<a href="http://www.zip-codes.com/zip-code/11101/zip-code-11101.asp" rel="nofollow">http://www.zip-codes.com/zip-code/11101/zip-code-11101.asp</a>

Yeah, it's gonna get way richer and whiter, though... I'm really looking forward to the next census and see how things have changed.

P.S. I went to LIC Bar last night and it seemed like I was the only person under 30... and the place was packed. What is going on around here?

There still are a lot of Latino residents, and definitely some Filipinos and Koreans, not to mention Queensbridge, which is mostly African-American. If you get away from the Vernon-Jackson area you’ll see that LIC is pretty diverse, even if it’s no Jackson Heights.

Here’s demographic info as of 2000:
http://www.zip-codes.com/zip-code/11101/zip-code-11101.asp

Yeah, it’s gonna get way richer and whiter, though… I’m really looking forward to the next census and see how things have changed.

P.S. I went to LIC Bar last night and it seemed like I was the only person under 30… and the place was packed. What is going on around here?

#48 the neighborhood is changing. In reading the material found on the HPCDC thread located here there are some interesting trends.
www.queensny.org/NED_Pdf/Hunter'sPointQNAI.pdf

These stats are from 2007:

Hunter’s Point has a higher percentage of households earning at least $75,000 (30%) than the borough as a whole (23%). Hunter’s Point has a higher percentage of households earning between $50,000 and $75,000 (21.6%) than the borough as a whole (19%). Almost half of the neighborhood’s population fall within the ‘25 to 44 yrs’ age bracket. The neighborhood also has a significantly lower level of individuals under 20 years of age than the rest of the borough.

About half of the Hunter’s Point population is White, followed by Hispanic making up 30 percent, 10 percent Asian, and 7 percent Black.

51, that's it -- diverse in terms of LIC people's professions and worldview, not socioeconomic profile. I can accept that definition a lot better. It's an important distinction to make because the word "diverse" gets thrown around a lot by those trying to prove how accepting/multicultural they are. (Why is it that every company that brags about its diversity is run by middle-aged white guys in suits?) Hunters Point South will do much more to make LIC genuinely "diverse" from a socioeconomic POV, and let's see how happy everyone will be when this happens.
