Long Island City local biz update: The Golden Arches to hit Vernon Blvd.

Mickey Dee’s headed for LIC. Rock on.
New LIC Biz Updates
Yes folks, LIC lived in fear of Starbucks for a while there, but the economy threw out the baby with the bathwater and we got lulled into complacency with our Mom&Pop Vernon Blvd. Retail storefronts can sit empty and abandoned – doing absolutely nothing for the community, but don’t you dare put a fast food chain here please. Where are we, Martha’s Vineyard?
Well, cry yourself a river, and then get in a boat and sail on over to the Golden Arches, because McDonalds is secured for Vernon Blvd. It’s been a secret rumor for a while – yes we at liQcity keep more secrets about LIC than we reveal. The owners are aware there will be some serious backlash, so are asking for the exact location not to be revealed until Mickey Dee’s starts the transformation. Let’s just say it’s right in the fray. Fast food lovers, start unbuckling your pants now.
Other New LIC Biz Notables
A new cell phone store is going into the ground floor retail space of LIC’s 48th Ave green condo, Solarium. 5-43 48th Ave, LIC
The owners and operators of the Tennisport Restaurant are almost ready to pop on Madera, the Cuban Grill & Steakhouse they’re bringing to Vernon Blvd near the corner of 47th Road. A new website is up; signature lanterns, logos, and awnings have appeared on the exterior; and the spacious interior continues to be built out and polished. They’ve also filed for CB2 liquor license approval and are aiming to open soon. 4729 Vernon Blvd, LIC
A burger joint called The Burger Garage has settled into the corner of Jackson Ave & 44th Drive. The facade has been transformed but the old-school interior is still being worked on. Brothers Jim and Adam Pileski (whose family opened NYC’s now famous Palm Restaurant) will be serving burgers, fries, shakes, homemade pie, and more. Their game-plan: “you will always be served made-to-order food using the freshest ingredients in a welcoming and friendly environment reminiscent of the ‘golden days of service’ – a time when people not only had a love affair with burgers [...] but with their automobiles, too.” 25-36 Jackson Ave, LIC
A “casual Mexican bar and restaurant” called Skinny’s Cantina is coming to Queens West at 4705 Center Blvd this fall from the brothers who brought SHI to LIC. According to Crain’s, Skinny’s will serve traditional Mexican fare and beverages, including frozen margaritas. As of right now, it doesn’t seem like work has begun on the space as of yet.
A new restaurant, wine bar, and market called the LIC Market is aiming for a May opening on 44th Drive, just west of 23rd Street. Their awning has been up for awhile now, and they’re working on finishing up a lovely, homey interior with great repurposed details. The restaurant will be offering breakfast, lunch, and brunch with a seasonal/local slant; wine bar after work/in the later hours; and a retail/market space with special food items. 21-52 44th Dr, LIC
Natural Frontier Market is opening a new location right off the Pulaski Bridge in LIC to add to its stores in Manhattan and Brooklyn. Signs are up and the health food market is confirmed for the 4000 SF ground floor of the luxury rental building 12-01 Jackson Ave, @ 11th St. The windows were papered up recently, so perhaps that means work has finally begun.
April Fool?
This has to be an April’s Fool joke. What space on Vernon is left that could host a McDonalds?
Ha, April Fool’s Day jokes are SO lame!
But they could possibly do a McDonald’s Express on Vernon, just sayin’
So that Queens West resto will offer “traditional Mexican fare and beverages, including frozen margaritas”? I just love “traditional *frozen* margaritas”. LOL!
Fortunately, there are some decent bars in LIC that understand what the word “tradition” means. But with that description I have little hope for the food.
Is it the mcreily space? I know there are some who fear a chain store in LIC as much as the apocalyse, but this is good news in my book. Its another sign of the neighborhoods progression. I would have preferred a Good Burger chain instead. And oh, that Starbuck will come eventually. It’s inevitable.
Please let this be a joke, please let this be a joke, please let this be a joke.
How can they get any business when there is no parking? The working clas will still go to Glory B and Mario’s and E and I. I really don’t think the support is here. And i don’t think the mom’s in the hood will take their kids there.
the tone of this post is weird. *irony* I’m guessing? anger, resentment? happy? I dont get it.
I hope to god this is a joke, McDonalds is disgusting. The roach/rat population will triple and be prepared for fat lazy people discarding their burger wrappers on the street as they leave the restaurant.
Best news I heard all year and one I’ve been waiting for the past 10 years. Now I have a place to get 3 square meals for the price of a happy meal. The only thing that can beat this news is if they have a delivery service so that I don’t have to walk. I hope a Burger King opens next door so I can get some variety.
Not sure I believe it….but it certainly will be interesting!
stumbled across a new furniture store on 44 off vernon, looked like nice stuff
I heard that the Dog Run on vernon blvd is being closed. Is this why it’s being closed down, to put a McDonald’s there?
Where’s the furniture store on 44th?
Happy April Fools everyone. No McDonalds is not officially secured for Vernon Blvd. At least not in our book.
And the whole ‘In N Out’ hoax pulled on NYC in general, was a complete coincidence to our humble prank. We didn’t know about that until after our ‘McDonalds’ hoax was posted. It seems the idea made it into the collective consciousness. Great minds prank alike.
Happy Spring.
forget McDonalds…corporate/chain stores I would love to see in LIC:
CB2 (Crate & Barrel)
MOMA Store at PS1
Trader Joe’s
Chipotle (it may owned by McDonald’s but they sell good food & cheap margaritas!)
Anthropologie or Urban Outfitters
discuss..
Duane Reade is a chain. Would love Chipotle here.
Yes, Duane Reade is a well-need chain. Of all the drugstore chains, I like that one best.
White Castle
the funiture store is a block or 2 off vernon on 44, south side of street, forget its name
STARBUCKS PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!
I need a coffee place that at least opens till 11pm!!!!!!!
Go, #16!!!!
I totally agree with you!!!
thanks #20, will check it out
That is a disgusting video and it should have some kind of warning. Fast food should be illegal. Or prohibitively expensive. I think an apple costs more these days than a mcdonalds burger.
Fast food IS disgusting and gross…but those rats could have been in any restaurant. The rat problem in this city is a separate issue from fast food.
Speaking of which, I love that we have a street fruit & veggie vendor in the ‘hood. We should support that kind of business.
23, do you really think most independent restaurants are any cleaner? I think fast food is gross and poor quality too. But I’ll bet that because they have corporate policies about maintaining kitchen cleanliness, they are probably more sanitary than most other restaurants.
Check out the NYC Dept of Health’s website for the most recent restaurant inspection results. There are already lots of mice, rats and other vermin along Vernon it seems.
29 — Except for the Creek, I didn’t see any restaurants in the Hunters Point neighborhood with vermin problems. Are there more places? The violations seemed minor.
Admitedly I didn’t go through every restaurant in the area but at a quick glance Bricktown Bagel, Dorian Cafe, Ihawan 2, Jackson Steakhouse are all listed as having “Evidence of, or live mice in facility’s food and/ or non-food areas.” My point was just that if people’s problem with fast food chains is that they attract vermin we seem to have that issue here already.
There is a White Castle very close by in Sunnyside on Queens Blvd. It’s a nice fast food treat once in a while, but I’m glad there’s nothing like that here. I’d eat it more often and that’s not a good thing.
Listen, children–and you are children, or at least you think and talk like children–if you don’t want to eat at McDonalds, don’t eat there. It’s that simple. If everyone in the neighborhood feels the same way, McDonald’s will go out of business. And if you just can’t stand the thought that your neighbors have the right to eat where they want to eat then write a letter to your almighty leader in Washington and ask him to pass a law against it. You know that’s where we’re heading. Pelosi’s been spouting off about it for months now. Liberal fascists. You astound me.
Great April Fool’s Day joke! Seems like a lot of people fell for it!

I don’t see what’s the problem with McDonalds. Love the french fries.
