From the liQcity inbox:

“”I am happy to announce the arrival of Asymptote Architecture, to the corner of 46rd and Asymptote Architecture is representing the United States at the Venice Biennale in Italy this year and will have over 50 architects working at this new location. They are presently renovating the building to become a state of the art architecture office, The principals, Hani Rashid and Lise Anne Couture are professors at Harvard School of Architecture and Columbia School of Architecture. This will represent new blood for the neighborhood and enliven culture in LIC.”*

Wouldn’t it be great if this firm created Hunters Point South? A middle income development project, built with high-end ingenuity and grace. Oh the irony.

If they did HPS it wouldn’t be middle income anymore.

I don’t get it. Are they designing a building in LIC? What is the exact location?

I think the architect is just moving his office here. Maybe he’ll design some building here in the future but nothing at moment.

Is it 46 Ave or 46 Rd? What is the cross street? That announcement to LIQcity is really unclear. Why would they move from a prime architecture hub like 160 Varick St? Dozens of architecture firms are located in that area.

I think that’s sort of the point of it being news. A high-profile Manhattan based architecture firm moves to LIC. It’s changing here. LIC is becoming more attractive to the elite in general.

The location is 21st street and 46th ave, across from PS1 and the Post Office.
