Pause for Station Identification: A letter to you from us at liQcity.
Dear liQcity readers,
If you’re noticing that comments are occasionally randomly being deleted, it’s because we’re manually deleting spam, and occasionally a real comment gets accidentally erased.
Spam sucks. It’s insidious. Terrible. Truly a virus. And it’s actually All Your Fault, liQcity readers, that we’re being bombarded with it now. When the blog launched six months ago, we truly thought we’d be talking to virtually no one for at least that long. But of course, we underestimated the fervor of LIC residents, and the diabolical power of Curbed.
So, the current volume of commenting has blown the roof off our expectations and spam blocking abilities. Please bear with us in the coming months. We are under construction, just like the rest of LIC. Building a user interactive website is kind of like building a fortress. A surprising amount of programming goes into deterring malicious cyber-invaders. Anyway, we’re working on all that…stay tuned for a continually improving liQcity.
Thanks for reading. Thanks for commenting. Thanks for the diatribes. Thank you cranky commenters. Thank you LIC obsessives. Thank you, thank you tipsters.
Super Thank You to local biz, especially our sponsors:
Currently accepting more sponsorship.
Cheers,
liQcity
You’ve got a great blog here, and what you do for the neighborhood is quite admirable. That’s rolling up your sleeves and getting involved. That’s doing your homework. You literally put your money where your mouth is. I commend you.
Charlie.
We Heart You
Great blog Liqcity both with its acitivism and unbiased reporting. Unlike previous websites that have since become irrelevant, I finally feel that LIC has a website that represents us.
Unbiased reporting does not exist. And liqcity is very biased towards the development.
towards the development? really? i don’t think that is a fair statement. all in all i think its a pretty great blog and liq plays it down the middle most of the time.
#6, LIQcity is a lot less slanted toward condofication than most outlets covering LIC, by far. If it were, would it dare write an article questioning whether toxic dust is blowing around Queens West? That sort of thing would put real estate jackals and others who look at community as a product or a cash cow in a tizzy for fear of harming their “investment.”
It’s a pretty dang good blog and gives voice to all sides.
A voice of reason. It’s good to see, Brandon.
Charlie.
I think No. 6 may have been reacting to liqcity’s reporting on “happenings” in the neighborhood — i.e., the newest this or the latest that. Having said that, liqcity also does a nice job of telling us about the personalities of the ‘hood. I’d like to see more of that in the future.
“I think No. 6 may have been reacting to liqcity’s reporting on “happenings” in the neighborhood — i.e., the newest this or the latest that. ”
I guess that’s “news”, though, eh? It’d be cool to have more reports on the old stalwart stuff that’s always been there and isn’t going anywhere, but LIQcity can only do so much. Although they did review C-Town! And of course, we have Forgotten NY and others who specialize in such things.
I’m still convinced that Court Square Diner is really what makes this whole neighborhood keep running, though.
Er, its news. In other words stuff that’s new…
Do you read the NYT to find out what happened 15 years ago, or do you read it to find out what the current events are? Sound like you should look into some reference materials at the library.
Just a suggestion, Liqcity: find out from Brownstoner how he’s getting rid of guest commenting and use it here.
13, don’t be a wise guy — I’m not that thick. I was (inartfully) saying that much of liqcity focuses on new buildings and trendy developments. Nothing wrong with that, as much of this info is newsworthy and interesting, and I like to read about it. But there’s much less on people. We hear about the changing demographics of LIC, but who are these people? What are they up to?
14, why do you and others have such a bug up your butt about getting rid of guest commenting? I really don’t see this as a problem on liqcity and think it would do more harm to the personality of this blog than good.
True, a few — emphasis on few — people say rude things every now and then. But I’m an adult — I watch R-rated movies and have cable — and don’t find their comments at all shocking. Why can’t you just put up your filter and ignore those comments?
How come there’s no reporting on what’s happening with the CUNY site and how the developer is trying to take advantage of the brownfield program and also trying to rewrite zoning laws? This is an issue that would be interesting to get opinions of the LIC residents.

Thank you LIQcity. This blog is one of the best things to happen to the neighborhood.
