Sage cooks dinner and delivers to LIC; Dutch Kills Bar moving along.

Sage General Store, Jackson Ave, LIC, Court Square, Long Island City, NYC, Queens, 11101

This fall really boosted Long Island City’s supply of food. Just a quick recap of what’s opened since August: foodcellar, SHI, Duane Reade, Manducatis Rustica, Sage General Store. Not to mention what’s in the works: MetFoods, Sushi Siam. Though it’s not very new, let’s throw Ion’s Corner Romanian Cafe into the mix as well, since it’s new to us. And Ihawan is with us in spirit.

Over in Court Square, Sage General Store is getting its groove down. The soft opening has evolved from just a lunch menu, which is usually brisk and bustle-y, to include a dinner menu. And yes waterfront folks, they deliver all the way out to the edges of LIC. Their website is on the way, but in the meantime you can call them at (718) 361-0707 for dinner offerings. The chicken pot pie is perfect for the weather. And so delicious. Everything they put out is good. It’s all handmade and artisan quality.

And for those who’ve been wondering about the impending Dutch Kills Bar, don’t worry, they’re still moving along. Delays are normal when launching any kind of business. (As many of us are painfully aware.) According to the proprietor they’re still aiming to be officially open inside of this month, albeit softly. We will keep you updated. Sage will still be partnering with them to serve some food, and unlike some of its sister bars, Dutch Kills bar is not members only.

How will the pricing be for drinks at Dutch Kills? Any talk of happy hour specials?

Clearly you’ve never been to his other bars. If you’re worried about pricing and happy hours, you’re going to hate it. I’d expect $10-$14.

Does the Sage still make the cupcakes (like the hostess ones)?

So Sage is actually open? I have yet to actually see it open and presumed they were delayed… what are their hours? Are they not open on weekends? Ugh.

Also, $10-$14 for drinks? That is more expensive than Manhattan! Come on. Presumably beers are more reasonable? That is as much as an entree at a lot of pretty nice restaurants.

I actually did hang at the Shannon Pot for about 3 hours yesterday, and it was a prettyinteresting mixed crowd, inspite of the pretty straightforward sports bar/pub decor. Seemed to be a mix of semi-lost foreign P.S. 1 tourists, old-school locals, and beardy art dudes. It usually seems more desolate when I walk by.

#4, you’ve also never had the drinks that these guys make. They’re masters of their craft. 2/3 drinks and you can call it a nite cap.

I agree with #5. At Milk & Honey the drinks are $15ish, and worth every penny. Best cocktails I have ever had in my life. If it’s the same thing at DK but without the whole appointment needed thing, then I am so there. Can’t wait for the opening.

Do they have beers though?

I’m going to guess no

sage is open, one of the best new places to open in lic. big plus for the court sq folks…and speaking of court square, signicant 7/g/e connection happening at the 7 stop, so stoked.

#9, I live by the Court Square area but every time I’ve tried to see if they are open, they haven’t been. Does anyone know their hours?

Meh, the 7/G/E connection obviously doesn’t help those of us who live next to Court Square, only those transferring from other neighborhoods. Actually it gives me a more roundabout walk to the G, so I am less than excited; why not improve service or something more practical instead?

i work a pretty normal schedule, leaving around 7am, there seems to be activity, but not open, but returning home around 5;30-6pm, always open…it is like having a home cooked meal every night, menu changes daily

how are the prices?

#12 Anonymous / 3 years, 2 months ago

I believe Sage is open until 9PM on weekdays. Psyched for Dutch Kills Bar!

#13 Anonymous / 3 years, 2 months ago

I guess I should stop trying Sage on weekends. That may be my issue.

#14 Anonymous / 3 years, 2 months ago

Sage not yet open on the weekends. They are working on it though.
