Sweetleaf keeps Long Island City caffeinated in style: liQcity Lattes!

Sweetleaf Coffee & Tea, 10-93 Jackson Ave, LIC, 917 832 6726

The notorious intersection of Pulaski Bridge and Jackson Ave is graced with the presence of Sweetleaf, a locally brewed specialty coffee & teahouse, featuring the exclusive beans of coffee connoisseurs, Stumptown. Owners Rich Nieto and Al Arundel (”Freddy”) are longtime residents of Long Island City, and have painstakingly crafted their cozy, corner cafe with antiques and local artwork.

This is not just another coffeehouse. Sweetleaf baristas are masters in the craft of coffee-making and take special pride in the excellence of their espresso drinks. They also feature sweets, sandwiches, and soups.

So if you’d like to sample some of Sweetleaf greatness, stop on by over the weekend and order a liQcity Latte. What’s a liQcity Latte? It’s a $1 Latte, instead of the usual $3.50, and you get to experience some cool Latte art. What’s Latte art? Order the liQcity Latte to find out. (liQcity Lattes only available during this weekend, Sat & Sun.)

In the meantime, enjoy an instructional video created by Sweetleaf on how to brew coffee in a French Press:

That place is cool, but the fact that drawing is all oriented to (and knows the names of) those towers is lame.

I think the Dharma Initiative used the same video.

Seriously, these guys are the best. The coffee is amazing, and the people are fantastic. My morning doesn’t go right without my Sweetleaf Brand Coffee.

What an interesting social experiment to see how much reach LIQCity has, and how effective this blog is at motivating potential customers to purchase from an advertiser.

I’d be curious to know how many “LIQCity Lattes” they sell this weekend…

Lame = Michigan native expression. Meaning a Midwestern person is trying to make NYC into something it isn’t and won’t ever be.

The West Coast calls you Michigan boy…go West young man. You’re not wanted here and you have no idea what NYC is about.

Goodbye.

#4 Anonymous / 10 months, 1 week ago

Go away 4. who cares what you think. you’re nothing more than blog pollution.

#5 Anonymous / 10 months, 1 week ago

Whoever made that video needs to RUN to Dutch Kills and offer their services for a promo add of their own. LIC loves their 1920’s.

#6 Anonymous / 10 months ago

Who is this person who is always picking on the midwesterns? He’s probably from there… and is soooo insecure about it.

#7 Anonymous / 10 months ago

If we are all from LIC that makes us neighbors. Do we really need the back and forth of insulting comments? I thought this post was about Sweetleaf, Stumptown and a LIQcity ($1) latte. I’m going to get mine today!

#8 Anonymous / 10 months ago

Yup, he’s definitely from there…he seems to know way too much about them…

#9 Anonymous / 10 months ago

I was born and raised in NYC but I would gladly travel to the mid west for some delicious Sweetleaf coffee!

Meanwhile, somebody ain’t so familiar with the neighborhood in any case, and I mean the 50th Avenue thing. I get it that the drawing is meant to be infantile, but adults actually read maps, sometimes.

#11 Townie / 10 months ago

And why (in the vid) does the finger point to “tablespoons” while the voice-over says “teaspoons.” What’s going on? Is this the Twilight Zone or something? Because if it is, I’m ready. I’ve been ready.

#12 Townie / 10 months ago

It’s tablespoons not teaspoons. I guess sometimes you get into character and end up changing lines. Sorry for the confusion but it’s tablespoons or 10 grams of coffee per 6oz of water.

#13 Rich - Sweetleaf / 10 months ago

Sweetleaf is an awesome place. Rich and Freddy (as Al is called) are super friendly and know everything about coffee. I just got a liQcity latte, even though I am a regular, and let me tell you it is the best latte in LIC. Smooth and creamy – needs no sugar, and they all know how to do that beautiful leaf on top. (would be great if it was $1 all the time:) I don’t know what all the bitching about ‘inaccuracies’ on the hand-drawn map is about. It’s clearly not meant to be used to find your way around LIC. Do we really need to pick on everything?

#14 Anonymous / 10 months ago

It;s nice to see the threads finally being moderated. CAn you also edit out all the $15 cocktail comments? But that person who always trashes people from the midwest is out of control. It really is blog pollution.

To stay on thread topic, Sweetleaf really is a great place. Just wish it was bigger and had wireless. That’s the only reason I go to Cafe Henri or Communitea. But the coffee at Sweetleaf is significantly superior.

#15 Anonymous / 10 months ago

How do you know you know so much about this person and other midwestern people? do you sit with binoculars and peek in on people? it must be excitingbeing a voyueur? poor 16 has no life without insults.

Swwetleaf is great.

#16 Anonymous / 10 months ago

I went to get my LIQ latte yesterday and also tried their fruit infused ice-tea – it was really good, the perfect refreshment for the summer.

#17 Anonymous / 10 months ago

sweatleaf is great! their stumptown coffee amazing. If they charged $15 a cup i’d pay it!

#18 Anonymous / 10 months ago

#4, what IS NYC about, exactly? Being a douchebag?

#19 Anonymous / 10 months ago

Although, I wouldn’t mind moving to Portland. Good coffee. Voodoo Doughnuts. Lots of dirty Michigan tight jeans trust fund blah blah blahs.

#20 Anonymous / 10 months ago

The liqcity latte was great, my wife loved her iced chai tea and their muffins were spectacular.

#21 Anonymous / 10 months ago

I love Sweetleaf. Best latte in NYC, I think.

What happened to the vegan cupcakes? They were awesome. So were the red velvet ones.

#22 Anonymous / 10 months ago

Save your money everyone….and go to “Joe…the Art of Coffee” in Grand Central. Just a 5 minute ride away. Now they know what they are doing. Sweetleaf has nothing on these guys. Sorry, but the truth hurts.

#23 Anonymous / 10 months ago

Joe…the Art of Coffee = Starbucks

The corner bodega also carries coffee…

I LOVE SWEETLEAF AND IT’S HOME HERE IN THE HOOD!

#24 Anonymous / 10 months ago

I love Sweetleaf! The guys ARE cool. We need to support the local places or they’ll disappear and then LIC will go back to not having any cool places for its residents. Adding a roundtrip train fare to get a cup a Joe doesn’t make sense anyway…

Long time LIC resident

The mango fruit infused ice-tea was delicious and refreshing. I noticed when I’m sitting there enjoying my cappuccino (my usual), everyone is overly pleased with the service..not to mention the product.

#26 Anonymous / 10 months ago

Does Sweetleaf have to specifically pay for all these fawning comments, or does LIQCity throw them in for free with the paid advertising?

#27 Anonymous / 10 months ago

That’s rude #27.

#28 Anonymous / 10 months ago

I think The Creek or their friends write their own Yelp reviews (see those 3 closely-spaced ones in late April?):

http://www.yelp.com/biz/the-creek-long-island-city-2?rpp=40&sort_by=date_desc

#29 Anonymous / 10 months ago

what does the creek have to do with this post # 29 (prob also # 27)? Right 27 you got itall figured out, it couldn’t be possible for people to actually like the place. Go sip on your Starbuck’s latte and talk about how the government needs to help small business owners…

#30 not a hypocrite / 10 months ago

# 27 & # 29, what is wrong with you guys? Don’t you have anything better to do? Like my Mom always said…if you have nothing nice to say…

It looks like someone is bitter…thank God the coffee at Sweetleaf isn’t…

Fan of the Creek and Sweetleaf

#31 Anonymous / 10 months ago

Alright already. Hey, owners of the Creek and Sweetleaf — step away from the computers and go wait on a few customers.

#32 Anonymous / 10 months ago

Still bitter huh? How terribly brave anonymous commentators are huh?

I don’t work for Sweetleaf or the Creek but would like to say that people who go out of their way to speak ill of places and other people are obviously lacking joy in their lives. Perhaps engaging in positive behavior would help you feel better about yourself.

#33 Allison / 10 months ago

Not speaking ill, just making an observation about at least 4 very shady 5-star Yelp reviews.

#34 Anonymous / 10 months ago

sweetleaf is sweet! (period)

#35 Anonymous / 10 months ago

Jeez, I like Sweetleaf as much as the next guy, but did they send this link around to their email list? Calm down, folks. Yes, it’s good. I’ve never found it orgasmically amazing, though, probably especially because there’s nowhere to sit really (same problem with Sage and the Brasil Coffee House on 23rd St).

On the topic of seating, no love for Court Square Diner on this site ever, ever? That place is the lifeblood of this neighborhood. The service is the best, open all hours, food is always good and affordable. It always feels like home in there and probably draws the most economically, ethnically, occupationally, and aesthetically diverse crowd of any establishment in the neighborhood. I would have thought the renovation would at least be worth a mention (although I sort of liked the old pink booths and broken jukeboxes).

#36 Anonymous / 10 months ago

Oh yea love for Court Square!

Caesar salad with chicken, Moussaka, Gyro not like a real Greek place but a decent enough substitute when your hankering for one. And The penne vodka dish with salmon!!!!!!!! My favorite!!!!!! The fish has been bad twice and the lamb once in 12 years , but I complained and they took my word for it and whisked over something new.

Also the Baklava. And I always get 2 meals out of 1.

#37 Anonymous / 10 months ago

And Court Squares onion rings! Fantastic!!!!!
