BREAKING NEWS: DOT repaves two blocks on Vernon Blvd

10101

Filming is hard work. Vernon Blvd & 47th Rd, Long Island City. –Jesse Winter

If you’ve ever driven, biked, skateboarded, or walked down Vernon Blvd in LIC, chances are you’ve run into a few potholes… well no more! At least not on the blocks between 47th & 48th Aves. Hallejulah and praise a non-denominational deity: Vernon Blvd has been REPAVED.

Apparently we’re not the only ones excited, because NY1 has created a rather lengthy editorial video documenting the entire process, complete with community and politico commentary. Not to mention highly detailed information about how many tons of asphalt used and the number of DOT workers etc… seems they really want to be clear that they’re working hard for Long Island City.

While they’re at it, it would be great if they could also repave the entire length of 5th Street, especially at 48th Ave, where cars go to lose their axles, and bicyclists, their arms and legs. And if the DOT’s listening, we also desperately need a four way stop sign (at least!) at the intersection of 5th St & 47th Road (where Duane Reade is). Just thought we’d throw that in there.

There’s a film shoot happening on Vernon Blvd today, incidentally and luckily coinciding with the fresh pavement, for a project called ‘Tommy’. Rumor is that it’s a commercial, but if anyone has the scoop, feel free to dish.

Did I just see a video made for repaving 2 city blocks?
I can’t comment further as my forehead is read from continuously slapping myself.

Let me tell you something…a video is totally in order here as it’s a MIRACLE that any paving is done in NYC. Is it me or are the roads worse than ever in this city? I’m moving to the moon…it’s probably smoother out there!

there is plenty of repaving done all the time around the boroughs.
the big reason that it wasn’t done in a long time in LIC was the constant flow of trucks and construction equipment for the new buildings.

It’s for the politicians so they can pat themselves on the back for getting 2 blocks of roadway in nyc repaved. I thought the traffic vests were a funny touch.

They also need to pave 47th Avenue between Vernon & 5th Street. It’s the worst road I’ve ever seen.
