Long Island City’s OHP condo kicks 108th precinct parking to the curb

Parking on Borden Ave, LIC

Well, well, well. It seems the neighborhood activists over at One Hunters Point condos at the corner of Borden Ave & Vernon Blvd are very busy these days making noise about problems in their immediate environment. First, a successful letter writing campaign to the MTA to decrease the drone from the nearby LIRR train engines (more successful than our politicians with the shuttle bus) and now this:

After several months of complaints from residents of a new condominium tower in Long Island City, the police have moved a restricted parking area that was in front of the building. Residents of 549 Borden Ave. now have about 15 parking spots on the curb to call their own after [DOT] removed the bright red “no standing” signs.

But the police parking spots are not gone entirely — the city agreed to move them over to Fifth Street, on the west side of the block. “So we just kicked the can down the street a little,” said CB 2 Chairman Joseph Conley at the board’s monthly meeting last Thursday.

“… the 108th has 55 parking spaces, which [..] is more room than any other precinct in the city. An NYPD spokesman said there are no specific numbers of parking spots assigned to any precinct in the city, only general space reserved around the station houses.

‘Kicking the can down the street’ is something CB2 is very good at doing.

I actually was the recipient of a parking ticket from the unannounced zone’s move to 5th Street.

Would like to see the 108 be more concerned about people running stop signs here on 5th and 48th.

… and be more concerned about the recent uptick in crime in the area. Also the parking in front of the precinct is atrocious

I agree. Why don’t they rent that lot next to them to park their squad cars instead of taking over the entire street.

The 108 actually was very responsive and professional with regard to this parking situation.

Yeah those “owhnazs” don’t want to pay for indoor parking….they are already up to their eyeballs in debt.

I’m shocked people live there….wont be long for the foreclosures to start
