Say goodbye to Next Level Floral Design

Next Level Flora Design, Long Island City

Next Level Floral Design is taking it to the next level… and somewhere else. Vernon/Jackson’s only florist is vacating their space on Vernon Blvd on Feb 15th. The building’s up for sale, and as it stands that retail spot is now open. Bad news for flower-seekers, good news for who knows who. Hopefully for Next Level Floral. If you never went in there, too bad. It’s a great shop. They provide flowers for the UN building everyday. I guess the diplomats need a little brightening while they’re solving all of the world’s problems. Don’t we all?

Nice place and interesting inside, but way too pricey for a small local shop in a neighborhood that is just getting off the ground.

There's always the florist over on 21 St btw 44 Dr and 45 Av. I think there's one in Citicorp too(?)

I loved the idea of this place. It was, in concept, a great store, but it was also never open. Frankly, I'm glad they're leaving so that another store who actually wants to stay open regular business hours can serve residents who live in the area.

They served commercial/corporate accounts, not individuals. Their hours reflected their customers hours.

#4 Anonymous / 4 months ago

#3 you have a point though. we need more amenities that serve the community.

Vernon is our primary emerging neighborhood artery. Personally, I don't want it occupied with commercial storefronts that are closed when neighborhood residents are walking past it. Vernon storefronts should reflect the customer hours of residents who live in the neighborhood.

On the contrary, I found them open most of the time. In the spring and summer they always had plants for sale on the sidewalk. I shopped there as "an individual".

As for leaving - not true - they are simply moving to an expanded space further up the blvd.

Their storefront was beautiful and appealing - I just hope that it is not replaced by a bar or deli!

I hope it IS replaced by a bar. And a cool one, not some pretentious yuppie BS.

Or a record store.

I THINK THE FLORIST IN THE CITI CORP BLDG IS GREAT, CRESS FLORIST, NICE PEOPLE AND BEAUTIFUL WORK, ALWAYS ACCOMODATING, THEY CATER TO THE PEOPLE , NOT JUST CORPORATE.

Record store won't happen hipster. Yet again, wrong neighborhood.

A bar is welcome though.

i've literally stopped by there like 7 times and they were never open. i was starting to think they were a front for the mafia until a neighbor let me know that they're a commercial business.

whatever they put there, I just want them to be open during regular business hours.

do we have hipsters in LIC? I thought they lived in Brooklyn and walked over the Pulaski Bridge to the Creek and Cave and then went back. I've seen them at the PS1 warm-ups but do hipsters actually walk on Vernon?

#13 Anonymous / 4 months ago

re: hipsters on Vernon -Frequently sighted in the summer months as they dazedly wend their way from PS1 warmups to Water Taxi Beach .

#14 anonymous / 4 months ago

Not that many hipsters go to warmup or water taxi beach. You're confusing them with eurotrash.

Bands like The Isles, Please Dept., and So So Glos all have members living in LIC. Some bartenders and patrons at the Creek, Dominie's, and LIC Bar. PS1 on normal days. Court Square Diner sometimes. Every now and then at Communitea. Texas Firehouse.

Has anyone ever seen yuppies in LIC? I hear they are a rare species.

#15 Anonymous / 4 months ago

The Isles? Please Dept. ? So So Glos?

Sounds like no-name, no-talent hipsters bands.

#16 Anonymous / 4 months ago

Jesus people. Do you really hate "hipsters" that much? I mean, what even defines a hipster? Are they known to be violent? Why are they ruining your neighborhood?

#17 Anonymous / 4 months ago

I'm a hipster and I'm happy.

#18 Anonymous / 4 months ago

Yuppies are ruining this neighborhood.

Had to chuckle at all the controversy on this one.

Didn't mind Next Level. I think what most a failing to be sensitive to....Is yet another business is being pushed out because of real estate greed. Which means that the only people to afford that space will be a restaurant or a bar.

I certainly don't want another bar because it is disrupting Vernon Blvd. I'm tired of restaurants that don't do their homework about the make up of this neighborhood. I want a hardware, a bakery, and not one that gets everything outsourced and has dumb cakes. A real artisan bakery, or a fish store, A book store, artisan food store.

Alas we thought the Manducatti's daughter's new place was going to be just that. No another Italian restaurant.

Bars are disrupting Vernon Blvd.? How so? There's barely anyone in any of them and Vernon Blvd. is so dead most of the time you can hear a pin drop!

Hardware stores almost never make any profit. My uncle had one, in a great location, in the city and what can you sell that gets return customers? A hammer? Once you have one, why do you need another one? Paint? Saws to cut...?!?

A real bakery and fish store will open when there are more people. Simple as that.

how come people keep saying none of the stores we need make any money? the city has all kinds of stores all over the place, including hardware stores. how do they make money? can't people get creative and find a way to make money? like a combo hardware store & nursery & housewares. That would make money. We need dish racks, hammers, anchor bolts, flowers and plants, pots and pans... I would go back to a good store like that all the time.

#22 happy hipster / 4 months ago

so you would buy a lot of hammers? and dishes?

once you have them, why do you need more of them?

and it's all about price per square foot. so let's say a flower slash hardware store opened up. so you need or want flowrs on mother's day and valentine's day and maybe for a birthday or two.

and maybe you need a hammer and some paint to paint your place. now what? how often do you need those items in your stay in lic?

or you're a 'lifer' and want to grow old in lic? how often do you need those items? and think about how many rentals are going up here. as compared to places to buy and the cost of acquiring land to build.

if the city truly wanted to *build* a community, they won't be putting barely any rentals properties here. it'd be all chances to buy, but alas... it is what it is.

TO the contry NExt LEvel did not close, they expanded to a 2500square foot retail store filled with plants and flowers. They are open from 10am to 6pm at 44-45 Vernon Blvd.

#24 Anonymous / 3 months ago

the problem with retail business in LIC, is all the people living here work in NYC all day, so I GUESS ALL STORES SHOULD OPEN 7PM

#25 Anonymous / 3 months ago

Too bad the flower shop moved a full 2 blocks away. Too far for you sorry-assed millionaires to walk to and give it some business.

#26 Anonymous / 3 weeks ago

Another bar, please. so we can get drunk and puke all over the sidewalks so the old Italians have to clean it up.
