What is LIC CORE? I have never heard of that, and the name sucks. Court Square!

I think they are just using the names as shorthand to differentiate between various different zoning districts. I don’t think anyone is claiming these are the definite names of the areas for any other purpose.

And I think it is Anable, not Anabel.

LIC included Astoria historically, but is now technically the areas o the south (above) and to the east of Astoria. This map is clearly for people leasing condos. Hence “Queens West” with no mention of the state park there, which new residents treat like their yard and let their dogs crap in. Did you hear about the new Silvercup Studios project that’s going to build three skyscrapin towers where the old power plant presently is on Vernon south of the Queensborough bridge? crazy changes yet to come..

From someone who was born and raised here, these maps are geared to real estate marketing and are NOT historically correct. Long Island City encompasses the zips of 11101, 11102, 11103, 11104, 11105 & 11106. This is how the Federal Government has it recorded and this is how the Post Office has it recorded. Each zip is considered a “town”, either Astoria, Sunnyside, Long Island City, etc. So Long Island City has TWO historical meanings, 11101 through 11106 AS WELL AS just 11101 ONLY. I know this confuses people who were not raised here but this is the way the government has always had it.

To make matters even more confusing, for someone who lives in 11105, you can have mail as Astoria or you can have mail as L.I.C., since each lot of land is recorded as L.I.C. on deeds in 11105 and to make matters EVEN MORE confusing, the Post Office is also designated as Woolsey for 11105 so you could have mail addressed as Woolsey, NY as well and it will reach you.

The city contracted out the job of updating mailing lists in Queens to a sub contractor 2 years ago and they subsequently FORGOT to add the hyphen between the first 2 numbers and the last 2 numbers of each building’s correct address, for instance 31-31 51st Street is now 3131 51st Street. This is incorrect and has caused much confusion for legal papers, deeds, birth certificates, wedding licenses, credit cards, etc. I actually brought this up to the IRS and they agreed that it was incorrect since Queens County is designated with addresses ONLY with hyphens in them as far as legal documents are concerned and our local council people should have corrected this by now but try getting that done! It is beyond me why this was done in the first place and nobody has corrected this in 2 years. This only has lead to more confusion over Queens historic neighborhoods, their boundaries and each person’s correct mailing addresses.

These fictitious neigborhoods are not based in fact. They are only geared for the pathetic bloggers that think they are fooling everyone on Queenswest.com and Curbed.com into thinking they don’t actually work for Douglas-Elliman.

The New York City Economic Development Corporation is a real estate LOBBYIST that is paying off all of the local corrupt politicians so they can chase more middle-class OUT OF New York and put MORE homeless on the street and destroy the quality of life here even more than they already have.

If you fall for any of this crap, then you deserve to pay $2,500 a month in rent to look at someone’s stucco wall out your back window, that is, if you indeed have a back window.
