Then & Now - Vernon/Jackson

A while back, I dug up some photos I took while spending my days biking around LIC. (fun times) Here’s a look at what’s transpired right at the famous triangular corner of Vernon/Jackson. There used to be a beautiful red brick building, that’s been knocked down for quite a while now. But nothing’s been happening in that spot. This is sort of a Name That Dev as well. What’s going on there?

Here’s what the site looks like today, sans the beautiful red brick building. Sigh… I know half of these old beautiful buildings are going down bc none of them are landmarked, and yeah yeah yeah.. sometimes it’s not a bad thing…but I still miss the Hackett Building. Let’s just leave it at that.

The other triangle that has been demolished and it looks like they have dug a hole for a foundation is the one on Jackson and 11th Ave. It use to be a gas station/ auto shop. I have not seen any renderings or rumors of what is going up there.

I wonder what is going up in both of those sites. I hope that they haven’t jsut abandoned plans.

The building permit is still active for the pictures that you have:

It looks like an 11 floor residential building - will incorporate the old building that is still stnading - any more info that any one has would be nice to know.
