What is going on with the out of control ticketing in Vernon/Jackson?

Parking in Long Island City

Hello metermaids of LIC - are you guys working on some kind of commission structure these days? I’ve noticed an unusual amount of parking ticketing going on lately, especially on 48th Ave. Apparently I’m not the only one.

A liQcity reader writes:

Was walking down 48th ave this afternoon - I swear more than 20% of the cars had towing chalk or remnants of tickets from the last few days (paper on the windshield marks) - is LIC and our bad parking signs / information about where it is legal to park nothing but a cash cow for the city?

A while ago I parked in front of a construction site on a side street just off of Vernon. There was no indication that parking was prohibited, and the curb was a lovely shade of steel grey (read: not yellow). Of course, they towed me anyway, and upon dealing with the police, it took them 5 days to even acknowledge they towed my car. Sigh. Watch out. Those construction sites are not allowed to prohibit parking unless they have a permit to do so. Most of them don’t. So technically it’s legal to park there… but that means your local police department has to have a clue and understand the law.

As a side note - though I’ve seen a lot of tickets, some of the paper remnants stuck to windshields is the postcard spamming being done by You Know Who. Between the police and YKW, our cars don’t stand a chance of being left alone in peace.

When I first started reading this I immediately thought of the Lucky Mojo postcard remnants! I can't get it completely off and it's been weeks.

WTF Mojo's?!?

48th street?

Oy - I am tired of the Avenues and streets having the same numbers.

In general, streets running east to west in Hunters Point are "avenues" or "roads". Running north to south we have "streets" with the exceptions of "Vernon Blvd.", "Jackson Ave." and "Center Blvd". Now that rule of thumb comes in very handy unless you are talking to a long time resident who still refers to "47th Road "as "7th Street "....then you go "huh?".

"but that means your local police department has to have a clue and understand the law." This is the reason why you fucking yuppies are hated in every neighborhood you infest. You will bash some poor civil servant, be it the meter maid or the police officer, for doing their job. As soon as you get so much as a splinter, everyone is supposed to forget you hate the police and should come running? heres a thought. Add private security to your already sky high monthly maint fees. Maybe they will give a shit.

It disgusts me that I (a TBTA Bridge and Tunnel Cop) is forced to work in this overpriced sewer called LIC, but can no longer afford to live here or in any of the surrounding areas. And to all you cop hating libreral yuppie cowards, I'll see you at the tunnel when you're DWI and I'm arresting you or when when I'm directing you to a safe area when the NEXT terrorist attack occurs and you're crying, "please get me out of here! I don't wanna die!" Hypocrites.

I wonder tbta cop, are these the "poor" yuppies that cant afford places on the upper east side? I mean its pretty pathetic to come invade an industrial area and turn it into soho or similar. Its almost laughable watching them walk to their highrises past auto repair shops, boarded up slums, and factories. LIC will be the same shithole its always been. you will just have a lot more snobs bitching about it, thats all. I'm sure the 108 will LOVE responding to all the bullshit complaints of "my apt smells funny" or "the korean E&I snob jipped me out of my arugula".

E and I sucks,

The overhead fan for the grill has fat dripping from it into your Tofu. The place is a mess and the rats call it home. Stay away, notice there are no cats within 437 feet of their entrance because they are in your rye sandwiches. Meow!!
