New Development Discovered! Kimaya Lofts, 2608 Jackson Ave
Kimaya Lofts, 2608 Jackson Ave, Courthouse Sq.
Only thing better than a ‘Name that Dev’, is stumbling upon an identified new development that hasn’t really hit the presses. I’ve barely seen mention of this new addition to Jackson Ave, near the Purves twins. But here it is!
Roving liQcity photographer Jenni Snead reports:
“I discovered a new development being squeezed into a teeny, tiny lot between Dykes Lumber & Mr. Wonton on Jackson Ave. It’s going to be a high-rise; kind of a tall, skinny, triangular building that never quite meets a point at the top. There was no construction work started at the site yet but there was a big banner tied to the fence with the architect’s rendering. It is apparently going to be luxury lofts and office space. The development is called Kimaya Lofts and I got several photos of the sign itself and the lot it’s going to go in.”
This is another project, I’ve personally known about but has flown under the radar for awhile. Its going to be raw loft space rather then this loft-like crap developers are pushing.
its like LIC’s first Finger Building
IT sits between Dykes Lumber and Mr. Wonton, but it also is next to the building behind Mr. Wonton. That building has strange smoke stacks coming out of the roof and on certain days (but mostly nights) they burn something that is putrid in smell.
At one point they had some kind of runoff water running directly out of the building walls onto the lot where this building is being built. When the lot was bought they fixed the leak but I am am sure the damage is done.
All around where it come out the grass died and the trees all lost there leaves. I called 311 a few times but nothing happened. But I would demand to see the soil samples from this property before I bought anything here.
I called up the number and this dude answers the phone “Viscaya” (i.e. the folks behind the much maligned Casa Viscaya are apparently behind Kimaya as well). I ask him for info on the Kimaya lofts and he says that project has been put on hold. So I ask, “What does that mean?” As in there is no decision point in the near future.
Just a statement about the market these days in LIC. Don’t believe the hype.

That is one SMALL lot!
