Fast and Delicious by Brasil Coffee House; Hookah bar ‘The Butcher Cafe’

Fast & Delicious, Vernon Blvd, Long Island City

Looks like Vernonites are expanding their business empires these days… and why wouldn’t they?

1) The Brasil Coffee house has an offshoot called Fast & Delicious around their corner of 49th Ave. Rather interesting Brazilian menu actually: rotisserie meats, steak, rice & beans, pita sandwiches, salads, and empenadas/croquettes.

2) Last week we spotted this seemingly new sign above the Butcher Deli on Vernon @ 50th Ave. A juice and hookah bar called The Butcher Cafe. Interesting combo. Well…many stranger concepts have succeeded in NYC so it’s fair to say anything has a chance around here. (Or does it?)

What an interesting concept. You take in antioxidants from the juice to counteract the cancer-causing agents in the tobacco. Brilliant.

Can you still buy beer from below to take up for a smoke AND a drink?

And you thought Blend generated controversy? I’m waiting for it to hit the fan on this place.

Why does everything that opens in this neighborhood have such an awful, awful name?

Anyone ever go to BLT “Be Lean Today” on 44 Dr?

You’re right, the Butcher Cafe is not the best name. FYI, it’s located in a place that was for many years an old-fashioned butcher shop, with enameled fridge cases, sawdust on the floor, the smell of blood in the air.

the place under Butcher Cafe is scary. I usually go to EI. At least they are putting money into upgrades.

a hookah bar? now THERE goes the neighborhood.

hhmmm, maybe because they don’t have some disgruntled, selfish neighbor

What the Butcher is proposing to do is really a disgrace to the neighborhood. The place is open 24/7. I am sure there will be people up there all hours of the night sneaking “shots” into their juice. He allows beer up there now when he only has an “off premise” permit for the sale of beer!
I doubt very much that smoking in that room is legal either.
Problems with the Butcher’s “upstairs room” are not new to the neighborhood.

There is perhaps no more detestable vision on the planet than a smart-ass yuppie lounging around on a divan smoking a hookah.

Ugh great. Here we go again…

I can’t imagine a hookah bar — excuse me, a hookah-juice bar — succeeding on Vernon. The stupidest idea ever. Bring back the butcher shop!

Re Fast & Delicious…

This is their second time around (you may have noticed the sign never left). Not sure yet if the menu is similar, but the food was very good to excellent. Hopefully the neighborhood has reached the critical mass to sustain it. Not so sure about the hookah butcher but F&D reopening made my day…

People, can’t we just stop the negative talks. Live and let live man! Tired of all the hate and negativity that we’ve been conditioned to spew. Think before you speak. Be humble. Be nice. Be YOU! We have enough shit wrong with this world.

The deli name itself “The Butcher” because many years ago, the store was a butcher and old timers always referred to any store there as “The Butcher”
.

Ate at F&D over the weekend. Just as good as the first time. I loved it!

I’d love a butcher. I don’t give a crap about a hookah bar. I would be really surprised if anyone goes there.

I’d go to a hookah bar. Why not? Its a add to the neighborhood.

If it were true Middle Eastern I would go….but juice and smoke? Truly bizarre. What’s F&D somebody???
