Sprint up on Jackson Ave; Mainco down on 51st Ave, MetFoods on deck

sprint and nextel store opening on Jackson Ave, Vernon Blvd, Hunters Point, Long Island City, Queens, NYC, 11101

Sprint/Nextel opening on Jackson Ave between Vernon Blvd & 50th Ave, LIC

Fall marks the arrival of many things. In Long Island City, it seems to be wireless stores like Verizon which opened at the Echelon on Jackson Ave, and now Sprint/Nextel, which is opening up between Vernon Blvd & 50th St at the bottom of a brand spanking new Fedders building. woohoo.

The hole on 51st Ave, where the Mainco once was will be Met Foods.

In contrast, the Mainco elevator building has officially been knocked down to pave the way for building containing MetFoods in the ground floor, a parking garage on upper floors, and a couple luxury penthouse condos. What goes down, must someday come up.

Where is Sprint? How can it be on Jackson between Vernon and 50th Ave.? There is no such street geometry.

“Luxury” condos on top of a bunch of parked cars and a dumpy supermarket. Credit crisis be damned.

It’s on Jackson, between 50th and 51st. liqcity still doesn’t know this ‘hood well enough to get it right. Newbie carpetbagger.

Ok technically yes it’s between 50th & 51st, but functionally when you are walking it, it’s just east of the intersection of Vernon & Jackson which very much does exist. That also just happens to be the intersection of 51st Ave as well. If we must get technical.

I doubt the metfoods will be dumpy. Nothing dumpy comes here anymore. It all caters to the condo people. If they are smart, metfoods will too.

Brand new stores aren’t dumpy, they’re brand new. Who builds something that is dirty? They’re not catering to anyone except customers.

#5 = bitter renter.

First that hideous new real estate office on Vernon and now this. This neighborhood has gone from suck to blow.

Yes, we must get technical, Jeez! How can you say it’s BETWEEN two streets that actually intersect, meanwhile the intersection is 60 yards away–AROUND THE CORNER– from the destination?

Then you cop an attitude with #3 like’s HE’S the one with the attitude. Jeez again!

Who the hell are you anyway?

Oh. Yeah. Oops…Sorry.

Nice bag.

Metfood is not dumpy. It’s the Queens version of a higher end “corner store” / bodega. They don’t have as large a selection as a supermarket but they do have some gourmet items.

Metfoods is a corporation owned by White Rose the private label co. and distributer for other brand names. Each Metfood store is privately owned and of course carries a large percentage of White Rose private label products along with other name brands. It is usually a small to mid-size super market – larger than a “corner” store or “bodega” and is competitive price wise with other super markets. Long time residents recall having a Metfoods here in the location up the street from the former McReillys (can’t remember which ave. that is). It now houses a large deli/grocery. You can easily glean this info by going to the Metfoods website.

why does it seem that all you people do is complain.
DO you really think that this neighborhood can survice with such attitudes??

this is not a corp. store. It is nothing but a third party dealer ready to rip you off
