Bus loads of Brokers coming to a LIC near you: Condo Condo Condo!

Digging around online yesterday, I found this hilarious video by Ins & Outs Magazine chronicling the arrival of 2 bus loads of Douglas Elliman brokers to Long Island City. I know some of you are gonna hate that I posted it, but c’mon… bus loads of brokers?? That’s good stuff. Also interviewed are Patrick Smith of the Hunters Point Condos double whammy, and Rick Rosa of Elliman. If you don’t like broker speak, then don’t watch the video. But if you like to laugh…you’re in for a tickle.

The mantra of ‘Condo Condo Condo!’ is a special bonus.

O this is great and funny! Mr. Smith and Nancy Pelosi have the same eye blinky speed. I’m surprised Mr. Rosa didn’t mention the influx of retail coming in not just in the next two years but in the next couple of months. Great stuff LIQcity.

The most successful condo in LIC is Hunters Point Condos? Personally I think they could have come up with a more original name…so far I’d say the Foundry LIC and maybe 10-50 Jackson. I’d say Hunters Point Condos is the most marketed dev in LIC. hands down on that one. live like a rocket…

I grew up in LIC and I think its really cool that so many people are now interested in the area.

Hopefully, as more people move in more stores will open.

Brandon you are right. I’ve wanted to like ins&outs. I’ve tried really. But it’s so fluffy and overpolished. I know they support the arts an all, but in a very whitewashed, uppercrusty sort of a way. No grit. Even the person they used in this video and the whole premise of it sucks. They’re trying to create this image/vision of a neighborhood that I hope doesn’t happen. Fuck the brokers. They’re just tourists trying to make a buck off of stealing the soul of the neighborhood.

Because yuppies and brokers are coming in by the busloads. Then no one will be able to afford it here anymore and all the real people will leave. Except for a few lucky ones locked in to some good shit, or die-hard types.

Word re: Ins & Outs Happy Hipster… it’s like one of those things that appreciates “arts” as a concept/patron/commodity rather than something that seems like it’s eminating from the creative community. All the glossy ads in there trying to promote some sorta high-class living… and don’t get me started on their music coverage. And don’t get me wrong, I love John McCauley (Deer Tick), he even played my old backyard house venue a few years ago, but does he… and Interpol! need the press from a “neighborhood” magazine? Why not seek out local Queens/Brooklyn bands who could use the promo?

Showpaper is printed in LIC though, I’ve learned. Maybe we’ll get some coverage in The Deli one of these days, too.

ugh. here we go again. yuppie haters. ins & outs is a great magazine. we are lucky to have it. i’m beginning to think we’re unlucky to have bloggers that encourage the hating of good, hardworking people who can afford condos here. what have we ever done to you?

Most successful LIC development - What a complete joke. This place has the crappiest construction yet. Even funnier is that 6 months ago they wouldn’t even alow brokers to sell the units. Now they are happy to “co-broke”. Sounds to me that they aren’t selling anything and are getting desperate. Most successful development yeah right.

Yeah that’s true. They didn’t let brokers in, and now they’re handing out gift bags to buses of Elliman brokers? That doesn’t add up. Or it does add up to subtraction if you know what I mean.

Developers rarely co-broke in the beginning of selling a building b/c that’s when the most affordable, smallest units are being sold. They don’t need to co-broke them and lose money if they do. It’s the larger units they need help with and, therefore, co-broke them.

It’s not brain surgery people. LIC RE is fine chicken littles.

We ended up purchasing at Hunters View on opening day directly from the sales office which we felt lucky to do. a neighborhood broker tried to convince us to pay them a fee for “access” to the opening. We had been shut out of the openings of 5Sl and 1050 because the places were over run by outside brokers so we were actually happy to deal directly with the seller as opposed to paying a broker.

Ins & Outs is a great magazine for the neighborhood. They cover the arts and the real estate aspects of the neighborhood. I am always impressed of the quality of the magazine and wonder if the publisher is making any money on it.

I guess they can’t be all against development like some people would like because how else will they make any money if the alienate the developers, restaurants and brokers that pay to advertise in it.

True. But it would be nice if they didn’t cater to them entirely. You can support commerce and advertising, and still talk frankly about the community at the same time. They’re not mutually exclusive. Look at curbed. They poke tons of fun at real estate and development, and have tons of developers advertising.

#24 You are correct there is room for improvement but I still think they are an asset to the hood. It is hard to compare them to curbed because curbed has thousands of daily readers and that allows them to do what ever they want. However, I&O only has a few hundred a month and that gives them much less power with their advertisers.

Maybe they need to improve their content if the readership is so low. There’s a direct correlation there. And that’s my issue with Ins & Outs. It could be something really amazing, but they’re kind of stuck in this one note tune. They don’t seem to have established their own voice/identity. If they are just catering to advertisement, then what’s the draw for readers? I’ve seen the magazine around town, but if LIQcity did not link to them in this post I never would have gone to their site. And the only thing interesting on the site really is the comprehensive lists of businesses and restaurants in LIC. But if LIQcity has that covered, which he seems to be starting, then what are they offering to the community besides just a bunch of useless articles pandering to their advertisers?

Love the positive spin video! Hysterical take on the obvious fact that they simply couldn’t sell the units, at those prices, in this market. That busload of brokers are beginning to look very hungry. The market decline is obviously hitting LIC… that’s why other LIC condos are slashing prices, and Powerhouse can’t close any sales.
